I get that this is a rumor and it’s been mentioned a couple times.
Thing is, Hawks will probably get about 3 first rounders for Trae. Which would see then either:
– go in full rebuild assuming DJM doesn’t resign and they will rely on the picks they get from Young + Capela + Boggie to rebuild with probably Griffin and Hunter the pieces they keep and they know their own picks until 2027 might be great but go to SA
– Keep DJM and build around him if he stays, but their peak would only be play-in which makes those picks between the 15-20 range which isn’t as appealing of course but still makes them very valuable and is only an i jury away to be a lottery and therefore a chance for a top pick
Wishful thinking, but this trade looks better and better with time. All you can ask for with first rounders down the line is a chance

You can’t build around DeJounte. It’s already been tried. He’s a robin not a Batman.

I don’t know about this. Even if it’s a rumor, doesn’t mean they have to trade him. After this season, Trae has 4 more years in his contract; and it seems like more and more league execs are willing to take a chance and ride it out until they reach a last resort and have to trade.
The Hawks are in a bit of a weird position. They could possibly lose Bogdanović next season because he’s got a player option. At the beginning of next year, he’ll be 31, so he might be looking for a longer contract. The Hawks might also have to start figuring out of they can at least extend DJM because it’d be a really tough pill to swallow to see him just walk after next season. Seems like they’ve been actively trying to get rid of John Collins for the last 2 seasons, but still haven’t found the right trade
Like I get it, but I don’t necessarily agree with it. While the Spurs might benefit from the shit the Hawks might be getting into, I really don’t like that star players can hold organizations hostage by forcing them into moves, and when the moves don’t work out, they bounce. Leaving the org crippled for years after they’re gone
