$10 million a year feels reasonable if you think he can play the 4. If you think he is only a 5 then we can’t afford that.

Looks like we’ve got 4 days to move him.

We have his bird rights. Just give it to him and kick the can down the road. If not this whole season could be lost.

  3. Dry_Masterpiece9741

He should be able to get that easy. Don’t blame either side though if we don’t keep him

  4. Don’t low ball if all it cost is around10 million. Thats a good contract for Naz. Not an overpay and is still moveable if needed.

  5. Yeah we should not be extending a 3rd string center to 10m a year. Gotta trade him

  6. Naz low salary will make it difficult to get good value back in a trade and with KAT still out it’s a big risk to move him right now

  7. ProRage0

If you are paying 10m for a 3rd string center you are dumb, we have seen Naz + Rudy and kat minutes havent been good so he cant play the 4

  8. Rapey_Keebler_Elves

He’s one of the worst defenders & rebounders at the most important defensive position, and he’s also shooting 32% from beyond the arc.

    Let him go.

I like Naz and if we didn’t have two centers making max money, it’s worth paying him *close* to 10 mil…but if we’re paying him that and have Ant/Jaden to deal with down the line, the luxury tax man will be getting his for a while.

Bruh, for a good role player that’s a great deal nowadays. Use the Bird Rights and sign him. Pay the luxury tax and figure out the money later.

    NAZ. REID.

This is like trading Beverly after last season, YOU JUST DON’T DO IT!!!

My thought is we should pay him and trade him down the line. He will be worth more on a 4 year MLE range salary than as an expiring this year. We shouldn’t have 90 million paid to the center position long term but we need a center behind gobert until KAT gets back and can preserve his asset value for down the line

  13. Birdhairs

Seems like a no brainer to give him that. It makes him pretty cheap considering the increase in salary cap coming up, plus that’s a contract that’s an asset and can be traded much more easily than his current one

Still puzzled on why we didn’t make him a restricted FA for this upcoming summer.

I’m a big Naz fan and would love to keep him long term. But even putting that aside, letting him go now when we don’t have a great idea of when KAT will return is dumb as fuck. We should at least sign him now and try to trade next year if it’s not working.

  16. Sam7sung

I think he can get more than that this summer. Naz should aim higher

I felt like 4 for $50 million is what he’d get in free agency. But maybe I overrate him

Here’s the thing. I enjoy Naz as much as anyone, I appreciate the contribution he’s making, he’s a great player to have around, and what he’s asking does not seem unreasonable.

    BUT…

Let’s not get too carried away. I’d prefer to keep him around if possible. But he is replaceable. Very much so. If management decides to go another direction with him, I will wait and see what he gets replaced with and judge it then…with an open mind.

I think most of us can agree that it would ideal to sign Naz to an extension and then figure it out between Naz, KAT, and Gobert. But, the reality is that the KAT and Gobert pairing will be given priority next year, which also means the Naz won’t have as many opportunities to show out as he has this year. Negotiating next year or in a future year when teams know we can’t keep paying 3 centers and when Naz hasn’t played as much may not be much better than the downside of trading him this season. If nothing else, Naz’s value is as high as it’s going to be for the rest of this season and some parts of next season.

It’s not an easy decision either way and both sides have their up and downsides. Naz Reid.

Hopefully these are just negotiations, cause Naz still has tons of value on a $10 million contract either with us or in a trade.

  21. Weary_Sink_9949

He may not want to sign here. Guessing he wants a chance to be a starter somewhere.

  22. Theonlyfudge

I would pay Naz 10 mil per year and trade Karl in a heartbeat and this team would be better

  23. FoolioJit

Are you kidding me? He’s absolutely worth 10 million. Tim Connelly needs to leave, he first donates to the Jazz and now this?

  24. He is definitely not worth that much even outside of the fact we have two all NBA centers. Great guy to have around and seems fun but just is not an amazing basketball player. He has been basically the same player every year which isn’t terrible but he doesn’t shoot it too well, doesn’t rebound too well, and can’t pass. We would be paying this man Kyle Anderson money and see much less of him when towns comes back healthy. I know people love him for the memes and it’s an unpopular opinion after the dunk the other night but we cannot give him a contract like that.
