Altman: “We didn’t do much at the deadline. … From a trade standpoint, we just didn’t feel anything that could move the needle for us. We could’ve made multiple moves that were lateral that didn’t really make us better.”

Fucking bullshit. Look at all the solid players who got traded for just 2nds. There was absolutely an opportunity to upgrade the roster, now we’re just wasting a year of everyone’s career

  2. PootieTooGood

So the Cavs will go in to the offseason with Love and LeVert expiring, if we choose to let both go, we will have roughly $12m in cap space with Garland, Mitchell, Okoro, Mobley, Allen, Cedi, Wade and Rubio signed (edit: with Lamar on a 2m team option, bring us down to ~10m if we take it)

What’s the move? Use that to sign a different fit? Re-sign one/both? Also, if we do re-sign one/both, where are we with the mid level exception?

  3. Anyone actually believe this? Lmao, dude probably still thinking Windler and his 10 games of availability is gonna pan out

  4. jfortyfourj

All the best teams got noticeably better in some way except us

  5. 🚮🚮🚮 a major eastern conference team fell apart and we are right on the heels of the big boys… this would have been a nice time to even make a minor move. We have a GLARING weakness that could have been at least slightly upgraded.

    So disappointing.

  6. tiredQu0kka

over the last 4 years Kobe Altman has earn my trust. made great move after great move. if he thinks not making a move is the best move i’m fine with that.

  7. TimeFliesFaster

Sometimes the best move is not making a move

  8. Chicken_rifle

Didn’t do much? What did I miss? I thought we did nothing.

Edit: why the downvotes? Nothing in that about not liking the no moves stuff. I’m fine with standing pat. I don’t think any move we had the capital to make is a big upgrade over levert, or okoro with the way he’s been playing lately,

  9. BuschLightEnjoyer

I mean it makes sense. I can’t think of a realistic trade idea I saw that made us clearly and significantly better that we could actually afford.

  10. SpiderJedi22

Can’t wait for LeVert to lose us multiple playoff games and then get rewarded with a contract extension

  11. BakerInTheKitchen

I’m personally happy with how they handled the deadline. You don’t build a sustainable winning team by trading away all your picks and assets just because that’s what everyone else is doing. Trades by default are even in value. So if you don’t think someone’s value matches what you would give up, then it’s not a smart decision to do something

  12. crisisactorsguild

I am okay with this. We have a good squad. Let’s get the data from at least one playoff series and see how things stand. No reason to go lateral or overpay. No reason to force things.

  13. roosley1

Okoro playing well consistently over the past few weeks probably solidified Altman’s decision not to make a trade for a 3-D guy. And I think that’s the right decision this year the way this team has been playing. Although I would have liked to see (and maybe still see) the addition of a solid backup big.

  14. I find it hilarious how mad people get over the trade deadline. 😂

  15. TheSmokedSalmon420

Yep. All these hypothetical Levert trades were at best a very marginal improvement.

  16. jibboo24

    I mean, imagine being a Raptors fan…
I’m totally content with this. We have an amazing young team that, as Brad Daugheerty mentioned the other night, is ahead of where they should be. Acting like this season is championship-or-bust is short-sighted. Our core is still learning to play with each other and have little playoff experience. Replacing Levert with a marginally better player (at best) isn’t going to change that this year or next…

  17. WhiteBakerMayfield

Fair, but we have had a few gaps this entire season we have not accounted for. Many other teams got better, we stayed stagnant. I do think this means the front office does not expect us to make a deep playoff run this season

  18. I like this team. I always felt like the Cavs are stacked we just need to be more consistent on the road.

  19. Couldve upgraded wing depth. There were more than lateral moves out there. D+ Trade Deadline for the Cavs.

  20. SomeFatherFigure

The Cavs have nothing to trade with, I’m more shocked that people on this sub are upset with him.

It takes two teams to trade. Who is actually taking Love, Caris, Cedi, or Windler, and not also demanding draft capital the Cavs don’t even have?

There were a few cheap trades it would have been nice to get in on, but nothing that makes the Cavs a favorite. I would have liked to see the Cavs swap Love or Caris for a player with a longer contract to facilitate future trade options, but that’s just because I’m not confident Caris will re-sign on a tradeable contract and would rather walk. The Cavs could open up space then, but there aren’t any great SF targets this summer.

  21. EliManningHOFClub10

Are we really mad about not forcing a move? If teams were asking too much for average role players I’m glad we stood firm. This team is still very good without making moves.

  22. hungry-jewish-man

totally fine with letting it breathe and reevaluating after the season. we are young and have time. this was a smart move imo

  23. steamofcleveland

I don’t think the sky is falling it’s fine we didn’t make a move. It’s just that the teams just above us and the teams just below us made moves to get better.

So, what we have to hope is that this team gelling and hitting their stride down the stretch keeps us in this slot for home court advantage

  24. Koby’s a great GM, he has done wonders. But trading for Levert is one of his only mistakes (and a bad one). Now he’s doubling down, signing him to an extension. Love can’t play anymore apparently (well he just can’t, literally). Don’t tell me you can’t improve this roster with some healthy bodies and more shooting, even off the bench.

Pray for zero injuries, even Wade getting hurt again will bring chaos.

  25. GreppMichaels

The 5 second round picks for Jae Crowder set a really bizarre standard for any list minute moves. You couple that with the ridiculous haul for Rudy Gobert, and I’m pretty happy we didn’t get sucked into any of that chaos.

  26. usernametaken--_--

There are maybe 1 or 2 moves that I kinda wish we could have gotten in on but for the most part I think standing pat might have been the best things. Like, it’s easy to wish that we could have turned Love’s contract into a 3&d wing but it’s obvious that sort of move just wasn’t out there. The team has a great culture and bringing the wrong personality into the locker room has the potential to mess it all up. Keeping the status quo, especially while the team is gaining some momentum again, feels like the best thing we realistically could have done

  27. ClevelandNights

I think what a lot of people on this subreddit forget is that it takes 2 parties to make a trade, I’m certain there were trades that the FO explored but if the other team doesn’t want our players ultimately it’s not gonna go anywhere.

Like people are pissed Levert wasn’t traded but if other teams currently value him as low as many people on this sub seem to why would they trade for him? Force trade doesn’t exist in real life lol

  28. I feel like there’s a lot of people in here just making a logical fallacy that any “move” automatically makes a team better.

There are absolutely “moves” that can make your team worse.

  29. DaDrFunk

I trust the executive of the year. Let’s be patient, plus I’d like to see Okoro get as many minutes as possible.

  30. Evwithsea

Man, seeing the price on Mo Bamba I wish we could have dealt something. He’s a better option to have at the 5 than Rolo.

  31. Hello_mslady

The vibes are immaculate. Let’s roll 😎

  32. TheBiggestCarl23

People complaining about no trades are the people that just want drama. Don’t force a trade just because.

  33. polishlastnames

I agree. No need to make a move just to make one.

I truly feel like we’re trying to re build the prime Spurs here. Durant and Kyrie can keep jumping ship to whatever contenders they want, but a well oiled team will take any of them. It’s just going to take a few years and convincing everyone to rally around JB.

  34. RudyCOYS

Team is crying out for some shooting and it’s going to be needed in the playoffs when teams are going to pack it in and make someone other than Garland/Mitchell shoot. I like Okoro and glad he is showing improvement, but the playoffs are a different beast. I don’t really trust him to make perimeter shots under that pressure. Hope I’m wrong but he basically wasn’t playable in the play-in games last season.

Levert and Love expiring money also puts us in a tough position.

I know the team is young but contention windows can move fast. We got a top 4 team in the East, every little bit of improvement on the margins is important. I don’t hate staying pat, but would’ve loved to get another shooter or option to improve. Kennard, Bey, Richardson, anyone of the Nets 20 wings.

  35. LyonsKing12

If Levert can be coached into not taking so many low percentage shots, he has a future on this team.

  36. LengthyNIPPLE

We’re getting healthy, starting to run stronger rotations and chemistry will only get better leading up to the playoffs. The East is up for grabs. Cavs are primed to compete for years to come

  37. This may be obvious but the better Okoro does, the less it matters whether LeVert stays or not.

Let us all pray for Isaac Okoro to become good.

  38. Suitable_Aioli213

smell that? all the Caris haters hibernating till this offseason! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

  39. I am so glad that this sub doesn’t make any actual decisions when it comes to the Cavs.
