[Stein] I was told the Nets asked from the Lakers way more than they asked from any other team for Kyrie and they didn’t just want the two 1st round picks and Westbrook, they wanted Reaves, they wanted Christie, they wanted Rui Hachimura in a separate deal… They wanted everything the Lakers had

Interesting info from Stein on this podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-6-trade-deadline-chaos-unreported-news/id1668189953?i=1000599078194

Honestly, if the Mavs were offering DFS and a first round pick, probably not worth getting in the bidding war if you’re the Lakers. I might rather just take D’Lo and Beasley for less than half the price.

Cold blooded move by Tsai. Also understandable

  2. ILoveMasterYi

The way r/Lakers was insulting Pelinka you’d think Trades are one-sided and he made no efforts for Kyrie

  3. Raptors2017champs

I respect not sending Kyrie to his first choice

  4. ChristianMan710

Nets didn’t want to help Kyrie. It’s that simple

Also, SAS said something interesting the other day. He said Kyrie had the suns on his list too which is why the Nets didn’t want to trade him for CP3 even though KD and CP3 are friends and KD could have stayed if he came then requested a trade to the suns in the off season to reunite with Kyrie had the nets failed to get far.

If it came down to not only getting KD help, but bringing in people he felt comfortable with, the CP3 trade would have made the most sense but I guess this is where the Kyrie-Suns conspiracy comes into play

The lakers thing was never happening on Tsai’s watch atleast

  5. Educational-Duck

People are saying it’s petty but Russ is a negative asset

  6. They would have had a hell of a time convincing the league that the “separate” Rui trade shouldn’t be aggregated with the other Kyrie deal.

  7. radiobirdman-69

Is it possible that Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith are better for the Nets than Westbrook and Reeves? I think it is possible.

  8. BearRedWood

yeah, at the time they were trying to keep KD, ofc you want players over picks.

  9. I_Set_3_Alarms

Didn’t give Kyrie to the Lakers. Didn’t do a package deal where it’s KD and Kyrie to Phoenix. Kept both of them in the West.

Feels like those were some major goals from the Nets at the deadline lol

That’s just another way of saying “we’re not interested so stop blowing up our phone already.”

  11. Flareon7

*Gasp* Austin Reaves and Max Christie?!

We were really asking for the farm

  12. wetwetson

Pretty sure the league wouldn’t allow the rui trade. You can’t negotiate 2 transactions as compensation for 1 player

  13. corruocorruo

Also none of that was going to help KD contend more than Dinwiddie and DFS. Spite might have played a role, but that deal just wasn’t as good as the Mavs deal for what they were trying to do

  14. Um isn’t dinwiddie and DFS plus unprotected 1st and some 2nd rounders just as good? Like WTF, nets still need to win they don’t own their own picks.

  15. Rapey_Keebler_Elves

The Nets also reportedly asked for VIP tickets to the world premiere of the Barbie movie.

    The Lakers emphatically said no.

  16. LowLifePimp

They didnt and still don’t intend on blowing it up they wanted good players lmaoo not Westbrook. The Lakers are NOT victims please get a grip

  17. AntSmith777

We’ve been over this a million times. We get it. Time to move on.

  18. PaleontologistFluid9

Sounds like Stein carrying water for the Lakers FO to me

  19. connie-lingus38

are acting like this is new news? this has been reported since like 5 minutes after the trade happened

  20. JilJungJukk

Majority of Lakers fans may disagree with me on this but I am glad we got the DLo package instead of Kyrie, considering what we gave up and what we would have.

  21. 2020IsANightmare

I hate to potentially ruin the Nets title season next year with Ben Simmons, Mikal Bridges and Cam Thomas, but agreeing to a trade because of another future trade seems sort of illegal, yeah? That should be investigated.

Anyway, let’s just be real. Kyrie wanted to go to LA. The Nets ownership didn’t like/trust Kyrie (which is soooooo crazy, amirite?) So, they didn’t want him to go to the Lakers. Let’s not act fucking stupid and pretend the Lakers didn’t get Kyrie because of Austin Reaves or Max Christie.

  22. aguyhereandthere

Lot of bullshit editorializing. Reaves+Hachimura+Christie are spare parts.

Dinwiddie+DFS are proven playoff rotation players. DFS is a 3&D wing that defends 1-5, Dinwiddie is a guard that can get his own shot and create reasonably well for others.

Lakers had little to offer other than 2 first rounders.

  23. PolarBearLaFlare

“Throw in that Lebron guy while you’re at it …”

  24. KnickedUp

They asked for Jeanie in a separate deal as well. Dirty

  25. Yeezymalak

Nets management said they didn’t want to send him to the Lakers. They have a garbage deal on purpose

  26. MelKijani

Tsai was letting his personal feeling get in the way of business , that’s a huge handicap to being successful moving forward.

  27. spokanian

Bron said he could take any group to a championship, I’m not seeing the problem here.

  28. Lebron-Needs-FTA-Too

Little do the nets know that kyrie and KD plotted this and the suns were their target destination. Lakers being used as leverage again

  29. relivesa

If that’s the case I’m glad we said no. We can get him the offseason if he and the team really want.
