The last 4 years: Zion’s played 39.4% of his possible games | Durant played 48.3% of his possible games as a Net | Kawhi’s played 52.1% of his possible games | Kyrie played 52% of his possible games as a Net | Davis has played 62.9% of his possible games | *only one is called street clothes.

Thoughts on the un-fair narrative surrounding AD?

Ok we will call all of them street clothes just for you

  2. Well Kyrie didn’t miss most of his games due to injury and KD was out an entire year so neither of them deserve the nickname. Zion does tho

  3. 8inchblackviper

Why is Durant’s first year being included here? His first year as a net, he spent that time recovering from an Achilles injury. Idk seems dishonest.

  4. SlimReaper35_

Because Day-to-Davis is just a catchy nickname. What are we supposed to say? Kevin Day-to-Dayrant?

  5. FERFreak731

Kyrie is weird. He’s just weird

Durant is too busy being on twitter. He gets fake finals MVP jokes

Zion is watching anime. He gets fat jokes

Kawhi is Kawhi. He gets robot jokes

Davis is always seen being on the bench. He gets street clothes jokes

If you’re mad about Davis getting jokes, every superstar gets jokes

  6. IMovedYourCheese

Almost like Davis’ career goes past the last 4 years.

  7. bmnewman

Doesn’t AD have a long history of nagging injuries in his career? I think his reputation precedes him.

  8. Sikkly290

One of the reasons AD gets his nicknames is he gets banged up *every* fucking game. AD will go to the ground clutching a limb, go to the locker room for 5 minutes, then come back and finish the game. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen more games where he’ll do that rather than just have a normal game. Its impressive he fights through obvious pain, but it is obvious, and that is memorable.

Similarly, PorziƆģis has played in 71% of games after coming back from his ACL injury (last 4 years) and gets shit for missing games and is labelled as “made of glass”.

The majority of those misses have been sitting out back to backs as precautionary (20/297) and 7 were for COVID. He’s been physically healthy for just shy of 80% of games since leaving New York (235/297).

His only real injuries have been some rolled ankles (4x), meniscus surgery recovery (9 games to start the 2021 season), and back tightness.

  10. markFwahlberg

Anthony Davis in his 11 years has only played two seasons of more than 70 games

  11. ImTheBestNerd

AD just gets hurt a lot, Kawhi, Zion, and KD all miss games but it’s usually one injury keeping them out a long time. AD will come back, roll his ankle, miss a week, come back, and do it again. It’s more about frequency than the actual amount of missed games.

  12. Ecstatic-Buy-2907

Because all of the guys were either injured by one big injury or was afraid of needles. It’s easier to remember Davis because it feels like he deals with a different injury every other day (hence day-to-Davis)

  13. boozbottle

Whether it’s fair or not, the perception is so much greater because AD has a scary fall every game. Like in his first game back after his most recent injury, he fell down awkwardly while taking a half-court shot

  14. KaiserKaiba

AD gets a lot of hate for being injury prone. It’s always be pretty shitty to see the way nba fandom and talking heads clown on him for it. Other players shouldn’t be getting clowned on for being injury prone tho.

    >Thoughts on the un-fair narrative surrounding AD?

Objection Your Honor! Leading the witness

  16. Phillistine-Lemon

The big difference here is Zion, Durant and Kawhi had major injuries that either took a lot of time to heal or lingered overtime. Whereas AD will come back fully healthy and have a new injury every two games (exaggeration).

  17. DEEZLE13

AD haters down so bad in here coming with the excuses lmao

  18. kennyloftor

lakers games always on so we are more aware of it

  19. SniperShake-

Street Clothes is so funny because it’s not even a pun on anything lmfao

  20. great-nba-comment

Street Clothes starting 5 versus prime Warriors, who dominates?

    SC5 is damn stacked.

  21. cwalking

    1. Zion is heavily criticized for not doing the things which could help him become _less-injury-prone_ (specifically, losing weight)

    2. Durant effectively played 11/12 full seasons of basketball (+ playoff runs) prior to tearing his achilles. When he does play, he’s still putting up elite numbers. His reputation is a guy who wants nothing more but to play basketball, but is getting struck by poor luck since taking a brutal injury.

    3. Kawhi… is hard to describe (being two-time finals MVP comes with some benefits)

    4. Anthony Davis only has 2 seasons with 70+ games played (75 games in 2016-17 and 2017-18). He continually takes soft tissue injuries which people look at with a skeptical eye. He’s not carrying a crappy team on his back and trying to drag it into the playoffs, he’s a guy who is seen as an injury liability to Lebron james. And, if you narrow your time range to the past 3 years, AD has only played 49% of games.

  22. 2020IsANightmare

    *Only one plays with LeBron*

It’s not fair. Or right. Nor am I going to ignore that – for various reasons – all the others you mentioned haven’t been called out as well.

LeBron is just the face of the NBA. The sport’s biggest star. One of the most recognizable and adored athletes in the world.

Everything surrounding him is bigger than it would be otherwise. If AD played for literally any other team, he’d get way less attention.

  23. YareSekiro

AD played 10 years and he has 2 years where he played more than 75 games. Also, AD has played less than 41 i.e half of the games in each of his last 3 seasons. Not good numbers.

  24. Carl_In_Charge

It’s because the Lakers are held to a different standard internally and externally than those other lame-ass boo-boo loser franchises.

  25. socialistbcrumb

It’s because Davis comes back for like a week and then re-injures something. There’s plenty of discourse on Kyrie missing games but it focuses on him being an idiot. Kawhi and Durant do get passes more than they deserve, but part of this is age and major injuries for them. AD is 29 and constantly tweaking something. Zion is almost constantly talked about as a guy whose potential is exciting but he has to stay on the court.

  26. BigMik_PL

Conveniently ignores the fact Anthony Davis played 70+ games only twice in his 10 seasons and never played in 80+ games.

KD is 8 out of 15 with 4x 80+ seasons with most of his injuries coming in the last, wait for it, 4 years.

Which leaves Zion who everyone makes fun of being fat and out of shape for not playing (with only few seasons under his belt), Kawhi who is literally infamous for his load management and Kyrie who has a “half man half a season” nickname.

This is a shit post that mods should have deleted yet here we are.

  27. LittleHollowGhost

Feels like everybody around Lebron is constantly getting shit on to lift him up. Respect AD as one of the modern greats

  28. _terencefox

Calling KD “Street Clothes” for rupturing his Achilles would be so out of pocket lol

  29. Kyrie is self-inflicted
    Zion is Greg Oden Jr
Kawhi has 900 more minutes over that span
Durant has 1500 more minutes over that span (which is greater than the average minutes Davis plays in a season)

  30. MattNola

AD plays with Lebron, Lebron is hated by literally everyone that’s why Anthony Davis is more scrutinized. Over the last 3 seasons AD has played more games than Paul George AND Kawhi Leonard

  31. MacDerfus

My thought is that the individual season matters — kawhi played at a better rate the year he won the title for instance, and the lakers are sorely missing AD when he’s hout. Also that Kyrie isn’t street clothes because you have to actually show up to the game in street clothes to earn that nickname.

  32. Jehehsjatahneush

I can’t believe Zion has 4 years in the league.
