I am really happy with this signing. I thought they would have given it to Dieng and then give one to Bassey this summer, but I think the Spurs are being smart here to sign him to a really long and cheap contract. Let’s get it CBassey!

I have been irrationally high on Bassey since his first stint seeing playing time when Jakob got hurt. Obviously he is still raw but the tools are clearly there.
I just learned last night he played soccer growing up in Nigeria and I love the idea of that transitioning to great NBA footwork.

This is fantastic. This is the rebuild part of the rebuild I’ve been wanting to see, a bit earlier than I expected.
I think Bassey could be better than a backup if he gets experience and responds well to coaching. Not sure if we’re going to re-up Zach with this signing, and I’m completely ok with that.

Awesome! Locking him up with a cheap long term contract is a great move. His biggest problem is basically a lack of experience with team basketball since he started late and didn’t have decent learning structure when it comes to fundamentals. A couple season with the team can really elevate his play since he’s a great physical player with excellent shot blocking and rebounding. He also shows decent shooting touch out to the 3 point line as well.

I wasn’t expecting thid right now given that we still had time to have to make this decision.
Hopefully it is also a front-loaded contract that decreases each year so that the biggest payment happens this season (and helps us get closer to that salary floor).
