The Cleveland Cavaliers have announced their intention to retire Kevin Love’s No. 0 jersey in the future after the team agreed to a contract buyout with the 2016 NBA champion. Love had been with the Cavaliers since 2014 and was the last remaining player from the team’s 2016 NBA title squad. He approached the team about a buyout after not appearing in any of the team’s last 12 games leading up to the All-Star break. When Love’s jersey is eventually retired, he will join other Cleveland Cavaliers greats in the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse rafters, including Austin Carr, Nate Thurmond, Bobby “Bingo” Smith, Larry Nance Sr., Mark Price, Brad Daugherty, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Despite being one of the most prominent big men in the NBA for much of his career, Love had been relegated to a bench role in Cleveland over the last several seasons following the emergence of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.
