Being an NBA GM is hard, but Danny Ainge, both with the Boston Celtics and now in 2023 with the Utah Jazz, has regularly pulled off some of the greatest trades in NBA history.
Danny is a pick hoarder and demolition man. He loves to tear down teams and rebuild them his own way, but once they become contenders he refuses to trade picks to fill out the rest of the roster. He would rather continue to stockpile picks, waiting for the next star to become available even though he already has a contending roster. Danny wouldn't do what Brad has done since he took over because he's obsessed with pick stockpiling. Brad has traded a future first 3 years in a row for a rotational piece and it has worked out tremendously.
I remember playing Little League with Ainges kid in Portland back in the early 90's. He is a very intense little league coach so not surprised about this. Haha
I remember as a Boston Fan BEGGING Danny to make a trade for our picks and young assets for a Jimmy Butler, KAT type player. God I am so glad we didnt, sorry Danny!
So far I feel like the Donovan Mitchell trade has been a win win. Mitchell has helped the cavaliers become a top 5 team in the nba, that wouldn’t have happened without that trade imo
This is tad bit overrating him overall as a gm imo..Yes he made good trades and got great overall value but he also failed to keep the said assets especially towards the end of his run..kyrie horford and hayward left them. Not to metion his failure to build them further when tatum and brown where on their rookie deals..kemba failed..ppl give him credit for seeing that thomas was gonna decline but fail to acknowledge that rest of his pg moves didn't really work out.As someone else mentioned 2 picks that was deemed to be of great value in the end amounted to nothing from the kings and grizzlies.Sane with Utah i feel they could have got more value for conley than just that lakers 2027 first which has a top 4 protection too.Of course timberwolves gobert trade looks awfull rn but its down to the idea that timberwolves picks would be prized pieces which hasn't really pkayed out yet..Just saying people like Riley have done a better job but don't really get the hype for the same
Id argue never to trade with Trajan Langdon either. Dude got a franchise player in Brandon Ingraham from the Lakers and got PAID for it with multiple first rounders.
I'm proud of the Knicks for mot trading for Donovan Mitchell with this guy. I felt like he was trying to fleece us and yeah we would have had three stars but no bench or supporting players besides Mitchell Robinson and older d rose and Evan Fournier. If I was a gm why do you even puck up the phone when this guy calls lol

This guy better stop it, he must never have heard of Jerry West. C’mon, Mitch has more titles as GM then him
Let’s not forget he almost ruined Boston by trying to trade for Justice Winslow lol
Until Danny Ainge delivers an NBA championship to me, a long suffering Utah Jazz fan, I don't give a f*** who he is or what he's done.

The Jazz aren't going to win shit, and Red Auerbach is laughing his ass off at Ainge potentially being the greatest GM in history
What happens when Danny, Ainge and Pat Riley try to trade with each other
Everyone forgets he initially robbed the Timberwolves in the Garnett trade, then drafted rondo in the late 1st round.

Are you serious? You're praising Ainge for ripping off one of the WORST GMs IN NBA HISTORY? Don't just ask the Nets — ask the 76ers.
The Jazz with trade for Luka in 2024. You heard it here first
Jerry West is the greatest GM of all time

He learned from the best
Lakers seemed to make a good trade with him
A Danny Ainge bio-flick showing the behind the scenes of these deals would go crazy.
