No Two-Bigs? Detroit Pistons Lose On Final Possession After Wendall Carter Jr. Game-Winning Tip-In

On the final defensive possession of the game, the Detroit Pistons closed with only one big (Isaiah Stewart) and it came back to bite them; as Wendall Carter Jr. tipped in a game-winning shot after a Paolo Banchero miss. Why didn’t the Pistons close with two-bigs against a big Orlando Magic frontcourt on the most important defensive possession of the game? Also, Jaden Ivey continues to show his growth and maturity as a basketball player through his rookie season.

  1. I dont get it…his rotations change all the time…Killian needs to stop starting…he messes up iveys progress and just play wiseman alot damn I swear he's basically bagley…8 pts 10 rebounds…4 for 10…1 blk….bagley numbers…then when bagley comes back they both will get 10 mins…cut Stewart's minutes damn

  2. That was a good ass game, especially for ivy! Would of loved to see more output from duren or Wiseman. Ivy gotta get better on defense

  3. there is no confusion that the tank is rolling!!! which is why we probably shouldn't be worked up about this.

  4. Wiseman was the best defender on the floor tonight. Duren/Bojan struggled severely on D though Durens may have been do to the foul trouble.

No more Stew at the 5.

Franz's size/length and even Banchero at times was an issue all game.

Can we please keep/put the basketball in Jaden's hands?

  5. Having Burks bojan and stew on the final defensive possession is crazy talk you are expecting a bucket or O rebound

  6. The Pistons our trying to tank and I guarantee if Casey was playing game 7 in the NBA Finals and he needed a defensive stop to go into overtime, He would not have Bojan on the court with Stew at the 5 spot and Birch at power forward with the game TIED with 4.5 seconds left on the clock. You have to protect the paint more aggressively than the THREE point line. Casey lineup force the Magic to go inside and we did not have a long center in the middle to protect the RIM and Magic won the game. Why is Duren, Wiseman and Diallo all on the bench and neither Bojan nor Birch even crash the board. after the miss shot, We could have force them to take a Long three point shot and got to overtime. But if you want a top three draft pick then you have to say Casey is a genius. TANK MASTER

  7. Wiseman really changed the game on the defensive end. He had the highest +- in such a close game with 16. He had a block and forced some kick outs. Diallo Wiseman and Burc kept the Pistons in the game. The team really has to learn how to utilize his vertical spacing and size. There were so many missed mismatches and alleys that could have been easy buckets and could have been the difference.

  8. We was robbed! That was goaltending. If any part of the ball is still in the cylinder and the ball is touched, it’s goaltending.
    ROBBED!

  9. I don't even try to figure it out what the Pistons are trying to do anymore. Troy putting all of these supposed to be good players on the squad. Casey coaching woes. Not boxing out, no ball movement, not taking the shot while open and being hesitant. The isos with Bogey all the time. I was offered tickets to some upcoming games. I turned it down. Don't want to see them live they stink.

  10. The rebounding isn't the problem. Livers forced a tougher layup not a tough layup. But if you're telling me that we are playing 2 big lineups, stew needs to guard these guys. I love stew but he has to stsrt demanding from this incompetent coaching staff to be the defensive stopper on bigger guys. Horrible coaching. Horrible play by stew

  11. I'm glad we secured the loss but this game just shows just how incompetent Casey is. How can you possibly go small ball on the last defensive possession of the game and have guys like Bojan out there!? G T F O Casey. The dude is a total idiot. Wiseman looked rough in the first half but ended with 8pts and 10rbs which is nice. Orlando is a huge team so it was more of a challenge for him. A lot of his mistakes look like rookie mistakes and I think he will clean those up. Once he gets his confidence I think he will good. I still want to see him starting and getting 30mpg so we can see what we have.

  12. I was at the game last night, very close up. Wiseman also did a great deal of rim running after defensive possessions and was beating guys down the floor. Pistons guards weren't looking for him. It's new to them but they'll have to watch the tape and look for him. Could mean much easier transition buckets. I also noticed Duren looked gassed VERY early in the game. Probably from not being 100% from the ankle sprain and not being able to get workouts in. Duren got blocked on a layup late where I think he'd usually dunk the shit out it. Just didn't have much lift.

  13. I’m getting annoyed by the amount of turnovers this team is committing. Like unnecessary stupid turnovers against the magic of all teams. I don’t think magic converted off of those but it’s just alarming.

  14. I definitely noticed how Casey kept out Duren when Wiseman was in. We actually could’ve dominated the paint or defended that area better. Because it’s not like they killed us from 3. I get that Casey wants to see how wiseman works out with stew to keep giving stew reps at the 4, but at that point just sub out stew early.

  15. So on that possession SPECIFICALLY, he that was the "we've GOT to have a 3" lineup. Jaden shot it so quickly, it left a lot of time on the clock and coach probably thought that lineup could stop the VERY last possession with that small amount of time left… of course, you're putting me in the position of explaining Dwane Casey – and I just can't do that.
