As Deni Avdija and the Wiz bench struggles, Rui has started to shine for the lakers. He has been an integral part of their recent success. With the possibility of Kuz walking this summer, did the Wizards make a mistake trading him?

Yesnt, we lack consistent bench scoring without him, his midrange can also be utilized as a deadly weapon during the playoffs but I don’t think he wanted to stay here.

WUJ seems to dislike him and he wanted to play somewhere else. It is how it is.

It’s a great value pickup for the Lakers. Hachimura is still pretty raw despite his age because of our lackluster development.

    No.

Dude was asking more money than he is worth and the FO made the decision he wouldn’t be resigned. Despite his legion of 🇯🇵 Stans, Rui ain’t it. Dude was overhyped while he was here and nothing has changed since his trade to LA. Lakers ain’t winning shit with this guy. He is a decent rotation player and nothing more.

I personally just thought Rui’s potential upside could’ve been higher than Kuzma’s but he just never seemed to have that aggression in game and it never worked out. Regardless, I don’t want to overpay for Kuz. Keeping Rui for cheap and tanking while developing our young guys was always my favorite choice but one the Wizards will seemingly never do unfortunately.

Didn’t Rui have like a dog shit stretch of like 6 ppg on 30% shooting like a week ago?

Lakers fans are impulsive. We know what Rui can do, but he’s not consistent, and only an idiot would entertain 18+ million annually for a role player with potential.

  5. Lord-Victorious

Thats funny because it was just last week i came across a post from a lakers site wondering about the trade because Rui was being inconsistent and disappearing at times.

Dude had 2 good games lol lets pump the breaks a bit. He is going to go MIA again soon. He is the exact same player he was in DC.

  7. KennyLongshins

We did not make a mistake. We’ve fleeced the lakers twice in the last four years and if y’all don’t hush hush we might not get a third free wizards brand fleece in the mail

  8. Lls Rui Have 2 Good Games Yall Think Lakers Win The Trade Negative What About All Them Bad Games He Had Yall Don’t Wana Talk About Dat 🙄😴💯😂

  9. IhatePizza230

Not true i swear Rui fans are the most annoying people in r/lakers. He had 2 good games but other than that he’s been absolutely dogshit.

    cool the jets

  11. Iordofthememez

Deni just scored 17 when he got 30+ mins lol. He has outperformed Rui since the trade

  12. waskittenman

Yes y’all should pay him 5 years 125 million dollars

  13. Man we gotta let it go. He doesn’t play for the Wizards anymore.

  14. KimBulgogi

Rui has a lot of talent but injuries and terrible management/development by the wizards made him inconsistent with us. I hope he plays well whether it’s with the lakers or whoever else.

Lakers fans really are insufferable. First of all, you didn’t get him for Kendrick Nunn. You got him for an expiring contract and 3 picks. Nunn was just a salary match, we weren’t centering the trade around him. Second, he’s due an extension that he’s not worth in the off-season. He was likely asking for 16-20m. I’ll gladly take an expiring contract in that situation. Third, it is widely believed that he requested out. This means it wasn’t truly our decision.

Also, Nunn was playing fine when he got minutes. Our coach just stopped playing him. Rui hasn’t been that great in his overall lakers tenure, don’t just look at 2 games.

Nunn is averaging more points and 4x more assists per 48 mins than Rui which is really sad honestly. They have the exact same shooting percentage at 45%, which is really sad considering Rui is a PF and Nunn is a guard. Nunn’s actually averaging more 3 pointers made in 9 minutes less per game too.

Look, we all know Rui has some upside. He was one of my favorite players on the team for a while. He has the potential to go off and lead a bench scoring unit and be the difference maker in a game down the stretch if he gets hot. But when he’s just playing average, which is more often than not, he gets extremely tunnel visioned and doesn’t pass the ball. He also doesn’t really excel at anything outside of midrange, which is a undervalued skill set these days. When he’s not hitting his midrange jumpers he’s not really doing anything else to impact the game usually. None of this is worth $16-20m AAV

It is what it is. I still will support Rui and I hope he succeeds, but clearly the Wizards felt it was time to move on. Do I disagree with their decision, Yes! Do I hope we don’t overpay for Kuzma, Yes! But we can’t do anything about it anymore. IMO the bigger problem isn’t even overpaying for Kuzma anymore, its the coach. He hasn’t shown me enough yet.

  18. DidierDogba

i swear there was just a post here about how much Rui was struggling.

  19. Meh, I think both of them have reached their potential. I don’t think either of them kill you but they’re definitely not winning players both are far to inconsistent and turn in more mediocre to bad games than good ones. Deni is inconsistent on defense (foul king) and you can’t really point to any part of his offensive game that is at an nba level and rui is the opposite, inconsistent on offense (frequent multi game cold streaks) and is lost on defense. The truth is they need to be way better at their strengths to justify their deficiencies and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for either of them.

I don’t hate the picks because they didn’t have to develop much to become impact 3 and d guys and that’s a winning player, only needed like one more facet each and if they developed 2 facets of their game they could be all stars. If deni could hit 3s and stop fouling, or if Rui could be more consistent offensively and not lose his man on defense then you couldn’t take them off the floor. It’s kind of bad luck that they both had really hit their ceiling and have only marginally improved since being drafted

Laker fans are thee most reactionary fan base around
