Close game, tough loss. Can we please tank now?

Jazz lose due to coach Hardy’s bad decision not to call Time out and draw up a play. 16 seconds left if he calls time out. So wack.

With this loss, we now fall from 9th seed to 12th. Tank job well done. Thank you Ochai

We shot 18 free throws and Miami had 36.

We went 3 straight quarters of not getting into the bonus. The bias officiating tonight was out of control.

We were right there but a learning moment for ochai make the pass kid.

As a tanking fan I’m happy, however Tech might have earned himself minutes for next season, or he might actually have value to be able to trade him with the Sixers, and Timberwolves first to move up in the draft. We lost improving the tank, but the team doesn’t look trash like the Rockets

    Also unexpected, but FTR

    GAME NOTES:

-What a comeback game for Lauri Markkanen and what a showing for Simone Fontecchio. Those two white boys played incredibly tonight!

-THT finally cooled off on scoring, but his playmaking was still there. 8 assists, but 6 turnovers. He needs to still control the ball a bit better, but his passing game is great. 9 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds for THT tonight.

-Kessler played good tonight, it was a tough matchup against Bam and so Kessler’s numbers didn’t really reflect his play. He still held his own, had 7 points and 8 rebounds, but just 1 block. He struggled snagging boards against this scrappy heat team, but still held his own.

-Klynyk didn’t shoot great, and had a more quiet game. I was surprised to see he had 7 assists and 5 rebounds considering it didn’t feel like he did much this game. He did have a sweet alley oop to Kessler late which is fun to watch.

-Agbaji had a bounceback game as well. 14 points on 6-11 shooting. The best part, and the part that shows his development, he only shot 1-5 from 3, so the majority of his points came from the paint. His shot chart looked incredible tonight. He did miss that game tying layup, but all is forgiven. It was a tough angle, and Bam had to have gotten a hand on it. Just growing pains of a young team, and hopefully a moment he remembers and watches film on to not make that mistake again.

-Fontecchio was our bench tonight. 20 points in the first half alone, and finished with 23 a new career high. He hit some tough shots, and looked so confident out there. 23 points, 8-17 (5-11 from 3), 4 rebounds. His game wasn’t too flashy, he just came in and hit his open shots, got comfortable and confident, and hit some tougher looks.

-Lauri Markkanen was our tried and true #1 option and looked great. The Heat threw tough matchups at him, but he was taking them in stride, scoring 38 points on 14-25 shooting, 6-12 from 3. 8 rebounds (5 offensive!!!!) and 3 steals. He was everywhere tonight, and credit to Klynyk and THT for finding him open. Not a lot to say tonight that hasn’t already been said about Lauri.

-Dunn played excellent. 9 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds. No steals or blocks, but he came in and impacted the game incredibly in his 21 minutes. 4 fouls dampened it a bit, but overall a great showing. It will be interesting seeing what the Jazz do now that his 2nd 10-day is expired.

-Coach Hardy had some good moments too. A successful challenge, and rode the hot hand. In the 4th, he signaled for Agbaji to come in for Fontecchio, but then Fontecchio hit a big 3 and Hardy sent Agbaji back to the bench. I love seeing him trust his players. He also tried a number of things to stop Bam, like playing JTA on him and it actually worked for 5 minutes in the fourth until Kessler came back in. He had our guys aggressively switch and double in the post and it was working. I wish he would’ve called a timeout to draw a play up rather than let the youngsters play, but I think it again, shows he trusts this team, and they trust him back. It’s all growing pains for this young team, and a good lesson for both parties to learn now, rather than next season when we should be better.

-Jones played terribly. He had 13 minutes, no points, and 3 rebounds, but was eaten alive by Bam. In the 3rd when Jones came in, Bam immediately outrebounded him, outhustled him, and just outplayed him to lead Miami on a 7-0 run to kill momentum. Jones goaltended a bucket, and gave up a bad and-1 dunk to Bam. It got so bad for Jones Hardy rolled out Dunn-Fontecchio-Gay-JTA-Lauri to start the 4th.

-JTA played some great defense tonight, although nothing really showe4d in the box score.

-Rudy Gay was super quiet the first half, and it wasn’t until the 4th he got going. Hit 2 3’s, a tough turnaround baseline fade, and that was it. He had a few stretches where he looked really good. He hit a bullet pass to JTA for a layup, blocked a layup attempt by Vincent, and then took it himself and missed a layup on the other end. Just a weird game where he looked dominant for a few possessions, then back to regular ole’ Rudy Gay stuff. Actually one of his better games this year haha

-As a team, we had active hands everywhere and although we aren’t a great defensive team, we play with so much effort that it makes it hard for opposing players to score. I think Dunn helped with the culture of defense, and hopefully Agbaji, THT, Kessler, and others carry this momentum forward in the next few seasons.

-Some things we need to work on, as always, turnovers. 18 tonight, with THT leading the way with 6. It was a tough game taking care of the ball, and we need to find ways to minimize those. We also fouled a ton, giving up a total of 36 free throws, with Miami making 31 of those. We had 25 fouls compared to 13 from Miami. We need to do a bit better managing our fouls, although nobody got in foul trouble.

-Overall, not a bad game to lose. Lauri had a major game, tons of fun watching him. Fontecchio looked great, Dunn looked good, Agbaji was strong when attacking the rim, and that was about it. Nobody else really stepped up.

33-36 bitches. Let’s please tank for a top 6 pick. This loss puts us 12th in the west, still just 2.5 games from 6th, and .5 games from 9th, but also puts us 2 games behind Indiana for 6th best odds in the lottery.

Tank commander: The refs, even Rudy Gay played decent

  8. MegaAltarianite

A couple bad decisions late, one by Fontecchio, one by Agbaji. Both go in for drives and get blocked, both had easy lobs to the big guys for jams

Fontecchio didn’t shoot a shot in the second half til halfway through the fourth. Whatever you want to think about him, you don’t let someone hot cool off like that.

  9. vector_nova

Man, you guys could not get a whistle to save your life. THT getting rip to shreds by Vincent, no calls. Lauri getting rip to shreds by everyone, no calls. The heat getting so many touch fouls. These refs were awful.

  10. SomePoorGamer

Really could have used a good Jazz game tonight but all that was on was the refs blowing the whistle, sometimes for no reason, and then the Heat shooting free throws.

  11. coolguysteve21

If Rudy Gay has 100 fans I am one of them. If Rudy gay has 1 fan it is me. If Rudy Gay has zero fans then I am dead.

  12. Refs really helped out with our tank. Unbelievable display of giving Miami every call possible throughout the night. This is the game we’re here to watch, y’all.

If we were actually competing for playoff seeding right now, I’d be fucking livid, lmao. I’m still salty, even though I want L’s.
