There is a huge log jam in the standings right now. We could realistically end up anywhere from 6th place to 12th place in draft odds. That is a pretty major difference. Depending how the lottery balls fall it could easily be the difference between getting a star player or a role player. Our upcoming schedule has a lot of losable games, but if other teams decide to start truly tanking, could spell bad news for us. I don’t know if we have what it takes to genuinely go all in on tanking.

No these next 13 games will not have a major impact on the franchise’s future. There is at best a marginal difference between 6th and 12th pick. In other words there isn’t a major difference between Mathurin and Jalen Williams. Both have had fantastic rookie years and both could be star players in the future. It really comes down to luck. A team can only accomplish so much through their evaluation process. In the end they don’t really know what they have till that player suits up and faces the adversity that is an NBA season.
Hopefully we finish as strong as we did last year.
