Spooney: I generally agree with the criticism of Mazzulla that Derrick White should play in crunch time more, but it’s worth noting that the C’s have a -0.1 net rating with him ON and a +1.8 net when he’s OFF in 4th quarters. 444 and 420 mins respectively. Grant is +5.1 on -2.6 off

Bro. Tatum is the problem. Simple as. He plays even average we win all those losses.

Mazzulla too but there’s nothing we can do about that.

Respectfully fuck the stats. Everyone can see that DWhite not getting a single 4th quarter is a massive blunder on Joe’s part

The coaching staff is clearly the problem at this point. They lack creativity in play calling. They fail to inspire defensive consistency. They run Tatum into the ground. It’s not even Joe’s fault. The team’s lost Udoka, Hardy, and Stoudamire in essentially one season. Go hire Vogel FFS.

No point of posting this because this sub hates facts when they don’t suit their narrative. They will actively downvote people for stating proven stats

Whats the net rating when White is out there and Tatum or Smart aren’t?

To me it’s simple….. how many conference players of the week would play ZERO mins in any given fourth quarter? Derrick White is legit good and the ball zips around spurs style when he is in. Not taking anything away from Brogdon who is also quite good. White is a difference maker. Just doesn’t get the love most difference makers get.

I do think that the best version of this years team might be with smart and white instead of the double bigs from last year.

Imes double big lineup was obviously a monster on defense, but it demanded a LOT out of Rob and Al. Al had to body the opposing big in the post but also constantly switch onto guards at the perimeter, and Rob had to fly all over the place playing free safety.

If Rob can’t jump out of the gym this year and Al is even a quarter step slower, then it just isn’t going to work the same. And it’s starting to look like both of those things might be true as far as this postseason is concerned (I’m still optimistic Al has another gear for the playoffs though).

Smart and white can be an absolutely abusive defensive backcourt, and then on offense all five players can ball handle and run the offense.

How much of this is because of garbage time?
