Even putting aside him being a bit of a weirdo off the court, we don’t have the cap space to sign him.

The Celtics were trying to trade Jaylen for KD to help them win a championship. We have nothing that they would want.

Here before someone who’s been crapping on Van Vleet all year suggests we S/T him and Trent for Brown (though the logistics make 0 sense)

  4. Forget getting this dude to toronto, just relish the Celtics turmoil just before the playoffs and a possible 1st round series against the Heat and the persistent trade rumours next year given that they cannot present him with an extension worthwhile for him to sign.

Don’t fire up the trade machine and Just enjoy that!

He’s just making sure Boston offers him the full max. That’s all this is.

Loving the fact that there turmoil is there. Many athletes have complained about how the Celtics fans are generally more racist than average. Couple the fact that Celtics management don’t show loyalty to players: trying to trade him, trading away the championship Pierce and KG.

People trash the Lakers for overpaying Kobe in his twilling years to make him whole. The flip side is an organization that shows no loyalty and players don’t feel like they care about them like the Celtics

Bostons not letting him go whatsoever

Are you suggesting we should sign him? Because as much as we may want/ need him and treat him correctly he will never sign here. We play in Toronto not New York or LA.

  9. This is a non-story, he’s just being honest. Whenever players get traded we always say “it’s a business”, he’s saying the exact same thing too. He’s not forcing his way out or anything — I don’t see a problem here. The worst thing he could do is be like “yeah I’m a Celtic forever” and then have the fanbase eviscerate him if he ever leaves (like with Kyrie).

Idk I see this as him posturing he knows he has leverage

Between him and Tatum, it almost feels like the VC/TMac situation in Toronto. JB probably just wants to be in the spotlight eventually and knows it’s not possible as long as JT is there.

That’s a good answer. No org is loyal to the player

  13. Obligatory bring him home comment:

    Bring him home.

Someone is downvoting every comment in the thread. Guess he/she is taking this news hard

Can’t even blame him having 1 foot out the door because every year in the offseason and at the deadline before they made the Finals last year was ‘Celtics shopping Jaylen Brown for *insert star here.*’

I would have a hard time feeling comfortable in a city if my name was in the shopping rumors meanwhile being the clear 2nd best player on that team.

The duality of sports fans of franchises that don’t have superstars regardless of sports.

When they aren’t on the team: insert excuse as to why getting that player would cost too much/destroy the team/not enough cap

Other times: complain about not having superstar players and how you would do ANYTHING to add a player of that talent level.

  17. It’s amazing how much more freedom NBA players have to speak their mind and advocate for themselves vs. the NHL.
