of all the teams to drop out of the play-in, I did not expect it to be the Dallas Mavericks. I thought they would finish as a 5th seed when the Kyrie trade happened

I hate Kyrie for obvious reasons. The Mavs roster just makes no sense in any way. I like maybe 5 players on the team but even like THJ who I like is just paid way too much.
Than you have Bertans and Mcgee just eating cap space for no reason. Powell and Wood are the only playable centres but both are completely matchup dependent.
And then their only good defender is a tall combo guard being cast as a wing defender (Josh Green).
Kyrie really is not the issue the roster is just so badly constructed. Oh and Jason Kidd is just such a bad coach like good Christ.
Remember when Kidd said they’d just outsource their opponents

What a stupid fucking trade.
When it happened I was really upset. I thought it was a stupid rental since Kyrie was always going to bail. That him and Luka wouldn’t have time to gel and they would be lucky to make it out of the first round. I was pessimistic from the start because I knew Kyrie wasn’t the “final piece” of a championship team and he was leaving anyway.
Even with that pessimism I was still off for how bad this would truly be. It’s not all Luka and Kyrie’s fault. They’ve both played well. Kidd is just an awful coach. Cuban is an awful owner. The trade shouldn’t have happened and Kidd isn’t a good enough coach to make Kyrie fit without months of practice. Hell he can’t make Wood fit and he has been there a lot longer.
They should have just picked up some role players and made a splash in the offseason. They could have went after Kyrie as a free agent. They could have went on a WCF run with the pre-Kyrie roster.
Instead they made probably one of the worst midseason moves of all time. If Kyrie doesn’t sign with Dallas (he won’t) then Cuban probably set the Mavs back several years. I’d be shocked if Luka doesn’t ask for a trade at some point.
Mavs are done. Kyrie will probably start running his mouth or doing something stupid very soon to torpedo the rest of the season.
One of those wins was when they scorched the earth against the sixers… that one hurt… that’s why I find it hard to believe they’ve been so bad

I really don’t understand why people are thinking Luka and Kyrie are the problem. This team cannot guard a team of 5 broken chairs to save their lives. The defense is absolutely broken right now. The offense is not a problem. All the opponents have had a free run to the rim. 0 paint protection. Yes, Luka has to be better on the defensive end himself, but this is more an indication on the team building and the roster building.
They literally signed Javale Mcgee to a 3 year deal and he was out of rotation 10 games into the season.
Kyrie is an amazing player but he doesn’t make teams better. It’s been proven.

I still think the Mavs should’ve traded for Jakob Poertl since they need a defensive center. They got rid of their best 3 and D player in DFS and got a traffic cone in Kyrie instead
super teams have distorted the view of the NBA way too much
it was obvious from the beginning krye and doncic wouldn’t work. similar to how westbrook and lebron would never work
they have too many overlapping skills, and making them play differently from their best severely dampens their effectiveness
it just shows simply getting the most talent isn’t going to do you any good if they can’t play to the best of their abilities together
