  1. Yeah, citizens in Utah haven't been this excited and energetic since that time someone slipped a ton of caffeine into the SLC water supply. I don't know what they will do in the playoffs and post season; but they suck at tanking.

  2. As a Jazz fan, ride this out and try and make the play in tournament. The remaining 11 games are important games in the development of Kessler, Agbaji and Horton Tucker. Looking at the schedule, 3 of the last 4 games are against the Lakers twice and OKC, these will be playoff intensity level games, these will be incredible experience for our young players.

  3. Jazz haven't been tanking this season and they aren't going to start now 😂

Lauri said in practice availability that after getting hit to his back (with knee if I remember correctly) in Thunder game, his back hasn't healed properly yet. It flares up but also settles fast, changing from day to day. So they decided to not risk some kind of bigger issue with it because his game is so physical. So he sat the game. Simple as that.

With Jordan: he hurt his right hand and decided still play in pain. In the next game he hurt his left hand. He could be seeing in game to trying to yank his finger weird way after it got hurt (like trying to put it normally again?). So both his hands were hurt. I can totally see him still having problems with one or both of his hands, since those take time.

About Sexton: he has been out about a month now. With his last hamstring injury earlier in the season, I believe it took him about 8 weeks to get game-ready healed (he came back earlier but lasted only few games before he was out again). So, I'm not surprised of him being still out either.

  4. You failed to mention that the nba changed the lottery rules to discourage teams from outright tanking. The best way to handle the new lottery is to get multiple picks. The jazz have 3 frp for 2023. One will be a late frp pick depending on the sixers standings. Maybe sixers take it easy and lose some games and jazz get the 25th pick. If the wolves lose lots that would be a lottery and unprotected pick. The jazz need to time their wins and losses relative to the wolves pick. Easier said then done but ideally if it goes that way they can position themselves for post season experience or play for the future. Can’t see the wolves or jazz pick being much better then 7th or 8th but two picks would be like a tanning 14% pick. Better in that they could strike gold twice. Make history!
Personally, the jazz have found their core and some young long term players so they don’t have to have a vw or a scoot. The top 10 is loaded with prospects and certainly will be some gem 💎 beyond that ….
Jazz need to fo for the playoffs as that would be bonus experience for such a young team. Can’t really simulate or teach that so get them started this year. A winning culture and attitude is important. Players and fans love the game and are being entertained so let them play.
Next year the jazz have cap space and picks galore to use or trade so they need to just focused on getting better now.
Last point! Cannibalism in the west will happen as many teams are facing off against each other. Jazz control their destiny but can’t afford to lose to say thunder and give up a tie breaker. If they lose, then they need to win against lakers which won’t be easy. Lakers have no other purpose but make playoffs. Injuries may derail them but also may motivate too. 🤔
Jazz can easily lose two games and still get into a play in. Using worse case scenarios. Gets harder to predict but logic says .500 and they are in and still likely in even with a below .500 if they own tie breakers.
Jazz have a good chance but it doesn’t matter when it comes to how other teams finish. If wolves blow it and pelicans continue to suck lately…blazers too far out so really it’s either the jazz or laker or thunder or mavs or warriors or clippers all in but one team.
Jazz can do it if they really want it.

  5. Utah's in the driver's seat. Highest upside team in the league right now. They have the option to draft or trade pics for pieces they like. Can they keep teams together is the question. Most NBA players don't see themselves laying down roots in SLC. Maybe COVID taught them some of the benefits of places like UT.

PS. those new uni colors are TERRIBLE. Fix that ASAP!

  6. I would argue that this is the best time to kinda tank, let the young guys play and experience the pressure of fighting to be in the play-in, whether they make it or not is irrelevant. One of the biggest criticism the last Gobert and Mitchell teams had was they had no "dog" in them, they folded worse than an origami. Watching this team fight to the bitter end is much more fulfilling IMO

  7. Picking up Kriss Dunn and Juan toscano Anderson and Jones have all been huge differences and yes Blocker Kessler "" & Ochai"s quick growth quicker than expected have been pleasant surprises that nobody expected

  8. I've been a Jazz fan in a casual way since I was a kid but only started watching and following properly when Donovan was drafted (coincidentally). From what I've gathered this organisation has a great mentality that differs from the norm of NBA thinking, correct me if I'm misguided. I thought the tank was finally definitely on but the last 2 wins defied that. As the video says this team is better than that and I think the franchise is too.

I hope they add a great draft pick (somehow?) and/or trade for a serious player in the off-season… and why not get Bogey back? it's already happened multiple times in my time now where a player spends 1 season elsewhere only to return and he'd be the best story of the lot playing with Lauri and Kessler.

  9. I predicted they would be a play-in team and people ridiculed me for it. Perhaps I should get into sports betting 🤔

  10. Will Hardy is already one of the best coaches in the nba. It doesn’t matter who plays, he gets the most out of everyone.

  11. I think the team should let these youngster show what they can do, let them play as they like, not to tell to drop it.

  12. I have no respect for the Jazz Owners and Coaches, We know it's about the Money "Not the Draft" But these Players Want to Win. Ryan Smith is looking to Move the team and for Us the Jazz Fans I wished he would just pull off the Bandaid and hit the Road. Jazz fans deserve better than this !

  13. It isn’t just tank or sacrifice everything to win. I have seen this play out over 25 years as a true Jazz fan. It is about team ball and healthy players going into the play-offs. We have sputtered in the play-offs too many years because we were hurt or exhausted from the regular season. Most NBA players are not ironmen like Stockton or Boone! They get injured when they are playing too many minutes and consecutive days. …something to think about?!

  14. Tanking implies that the Jazz want a top 4 guy. Obviously, Utah isn't looking to get victor, but I don't think it's out of the question that they could score on a guy like cam whitmore or Anthony Black. Selecting 7th or 8th might be more reasonable then assuming Danny wants to pick third or fourth, and it's still a real possibility

  15. 6:50 oh trust me as a Jazz fan we know that already. I would love to get a 6 or 7 seed and face the Kings in the first round of then playoffs. They aren’t scary and could you imagine the Jazz upset them? That would be funny. This team has been so much fun to watch and it’s great to outperform preseason expectations. I miss Rudy and Donovan but this years team has been more fun to watch then any of theirs.

  16. The Jazz are an odd situation. The front office is clearly trying to tank. They traded all 5 starters from last year, plus other vets, in two waves of trades; for mainly draft compensation. Not to say they were bad trades, clearly they were good trades. Got a ton of draft assets and young/good players back in return for those all-stars and vets.

But this team is very much out-performing the expectations. The new (very young) coach is good. Everyone thought he'd be good… but this fast? It's crazy. Got a rookie-of-the-year candidate in Walker Kessler, and solid starting-caliber wing in Ochai Agbaji, a great sixth-man in Sexton, an All-Star in Markennen, a great backup guard in THT. And that's just trade pieces they got this year. Jordan Clarkson is a valuable 2-guard, who might come back… They've got KO for another year (he's been great filling in whatever need the team has). This could be a great team if they had a real point-guard. Maybe they can get that in the draft this year… but with all the other young, relatively cheap , talent on this team. There's an argument to be made for spending those trade assets on an experienced guard this summer.

But I'm not really excited by the free agent market this summer. Do you spend a bunch of money on Fred VanVleet? I wouldn't… Not when you could likely get your hands on Tyus Jones in a trade. Do you save some money and go mid-range on a guy like Dennis Schroder or Donte DiVincenzo?

  17. It’s unfortunate that they aren’t rewarded with this effort and you have teams clearly tanking that are rewarded by higher draft stocks.

  18. Thanks for the content Luca – amazing as always. Maybe you could do an analysis of the Jazz-Wolves (Gobert) trade and the Thunder-Clippers (Paul George) trade.
The Jazz and Thunder are just as good as their trade partners, at least to this point in the season, BUT the picks that are (still) owed to the Jazz and Thunder, from the Wolves and Clippers, respectively, is insane, to say the least. Unfortunately, due to the injuries suffered by the Wolves (KAT) and the Clippers (George) maybe it is unfair to assess. But I highly doubt that future trades will involve 4 picks plus pick swaps. Happy for the small market teams of Utah and OKC and their fan bases. Once again, thanks for the content. Keep it coming!

  19. As a Kings fan, I’m more scared of the Jazz than some of the teams above them. Primarily because the Jazz are a young team and they are similar to us.

  20. I think it's bush league to tank. Losing on purpose is still losing, and it's for losers. If the Jazz tank they should refund the money their fans paid for tickets and silently slink away in the night.

  21. Just curious, why do you have to say against another top team but not the Sacramento Kings? Still think ppl shaming the Kings lol? That game though Huerter was out and he's scored 27 and 29 points the two games he's been back. I have to say though, Kessler looks amazing.
