[Wojnarowski] The showdown of MVP frontrunners is off tonight: Sixers are ruling out Joel Embiid (calf) vs. Nikola Jokic and Nuggets. Embiid attempted to work out this morning, but team is taking a precautionary approach given density of recent schedule.

Damn, not a great look after that article came out today.

  2. lilbismyfriend21

I wonder if the high altitude plays a role. This is an absolute bummer

  3. SPARKisnumber1

Hard to say what this means for Embiid’s mvp case, but hopefully we get a rematch in the finals

  4. thesix7722

Damn, nuggets fans should be happy because they just avoided another 50 piece being dropped on jokic

  5. Few_Mulberry5372

Man I love Embiid but you can’t talk all that shit in the interview this morning and then sit out against Jokic

  6. RisingEephus8

Honestly shocked. Just makes him look soft after today’s article

  7. thejohntree

We should rest Harden then too. Protect their health for the playoffs.

  8. JokersRWildStudios

…I mean. Fine I guess. Don’t play Harden either.

  9. shifty4388

I recommend if you want to keep your sanity stay away from /r/NBA after this. Filled with diseases..

  10. rexfloyd94

bummer but if he’s legit about wanting post season success more than the mvp then can’t really blame him

  11. bigSpeakersReddit

i can’t defend this one. this is a bad look especially after that article gets released today. jesus man

  12. battletor7

3 games in 4 nights, so I guess I understand it? But man what terrible timing. For the first time ever, this really does embiid look really soft.

  13. ChickenLiverNuts

dude he cant sit out this game

chams really picked an awful time to drop that article holy shit

  14. THEMMICO

    Terrible look.

Why on earth would they play him B2B on the road….

the decisions this franchise make are mind boggling to say the least.

  15. Neat-Confidence5556

it’s funny how denver fans think he’s scared of their boy. dropped 50 against him no problem last time. jokic can’t guard him

  16. HoelEmbellyDancer

The game isn’t nationally televised and he already spanked Jokic H2H. Giannis missed a game against Denver and the Bucks destroyed them but no one talks about that

  17. jeppsforst

Such bullshit. They threw this man out there on a west coast back to back and NOW they want to be precautionary in a game that literally was going to decide MVP. Chalk it up fellas. Jokic has once again won the award

  18. wlabib03

So you play him on a back to back without harden but you rest him today of all games???

  19. jeppsforst

Also shoutout to the fucking NBA schedule makers for having a late season game between the last TWO SEASONS mvp and runner-up be the 3rd game in 4 nights for one of the teams. Great example of how NOT to successfully market your product

  20. Nid0k1ng

Rivers completely mishandled this, should of sat Embiid against Phoenix. Wouldn’t be surprised if he loses MVP again now.

I hate how every spring it feels like this shit happens.

  21. embiidDAgoat

Massive L after playing on back to backs in which we lose both. Such a sixers thing to go from rolling to complete catastrophe in a matter of games.

  22. iverson3-1

So so so so so so sooooo disappointed right now 😩

I’m legit about to take a walk 🤦

  23. Prestigious-Rock201

That article came at such an odd ass time wtf

  24. Sixers0321

His MVP is gone if he’s sitting tonight. They should just accept the 3 seed and rest Joel and Harden a bunch down the stretch.

  25. thisisbyrdman

Man this sucks. I don’t want him playing and risking being healthy for a playoffs, but this could have cemented the MVP.

  26. harveydent526

Good. He already cooked Jokic, nothing more to see.

  27. DJ_Red_Lantern

Wow lol bought tickets for this game months ago figuring there was 0% chance embiid doesn’t play and been looking forward to it for so long. Screw going to NBA games, it’s never worth it, haven’t caught any of the players I’ve ever bought tickets to see

  28. ohnoyoudidnt21

I have tickets to the game tonight. Insanely frustrating. Tickets were expensive. This is not okay

  29. No fucking way, and we wasted him on the suns??

  30. BabaBrody

B-Ball Paul rips through Jokic, destroying his case for MVP. Just like we planned it.

  31. Embiid says he doesn’t care about MVP

everyone says he’s full of shit and cares a lot

he sits out a game that would define the MVP race because he’s focusing on playoffs

    Everyone says he’s a coward????????????????????????????????????????

    please make it make sense

  32. moistreese

talked all that ish in the article just to duck jokic. not a good look at all

  33. msJensen1995

Terrible look. Shame on Doc, shame on Morey. If he needed rest than why not rest him against Suns

  34. Niceguydan8

This probably isn’t going to be a popular take here:

If Joker had the article come out today of taking pretty direct shots at Embiid without actually naming him and ducked the game due to injury precautions, basically everyone on here would be shitting all the way down his throat. And y’all would be right to do it.

Pretending like it’s somehow different because it’s “your guy” is just dumb. It’s a really bad look. The timing is really unfortunate given the article that came out.

Hopefully they can get a dub without him, but it 100% does look like he’s ducking, even if it’s a legit injury precaution (which I believe it is.)

  35. killermoose23

Joel has nothing to prove, he obliterated Jokic in the previous matchup and really is the best player in the world right now. One seed is not on the table anymore, therefore shutting him down is the right decision with a nagging injury. It sure sucks though.

  36. schmendimini

ITS ALMOST LIKE WHEN HE SAYS HE CARES ABOUT THE PLAYOFFS MORE THAN HIS HEALTH HE ACTUALLY MEANS IT!!! Good god people!!!!!!
