Why are the Oklahoma City Thunder rotations so deep at this point in the season?

The Oklahoma City Thunder fell to the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night inside the Paycom Center. How do the OKC Thunder respond to such a bad loss? Why are the Thunder continuing to explore their roster? Is OKC bench boss Mark Daigneault doing the right thing with these long rotations? The Bricktown boys got a special game from Jalen Williams, Josh Giddey, and Isaiah Joe in this contest.

  1. We need to give Saric more min. Poku looked terrible! I understand "the process" but it can be really frustrating to watch Poku struggle.

  2. Whew. MOST untimely defeat. Gotta be the first time in the franchise history that 3 starting players scored 30+ points yet OKC LOST!! Maybe one telling factor is that Charlotte had one star performer in P.J. Washington plus SIX other players who scored double figures. OKC had the three 30+ stars, plus a 16 from Dort and…. that's it. So congrats to Giddey, J-Dub & Joe BUT young teams do run out of juice at this stage of the season and unfortunately, that's what we are seeing now.

  3. Man, i whole heartedly agree on the rotations. My whole thought proccess was dude MUST be playying JRE & Tree Mann as a bit of a "prove yourselves" experiment. With the emergence of both J-Dub & J-Will, it gives alot of flexibility to play Dort and I.Joe on the 2 or 3 when need be, so at many times we're seeing Giddy or Shai play point while the other rest when you add in that we'll be getting Kenny Hustle back and Poku's now back allows are 4's to play as 4's.. That 3-4 rotation gets jammed ( to the benefit of Presti's drafting), our 2-4's are basically danm near inter-changeable.

This really leaves Tre Mann & JRE as the odd men out sadly. Atleast in JRE's part its due to injury but Tre's part 2 seasons in is definitely influenced by inconsistency.

As a business perspective there are veteran points and forwards we could get for as cheap who have playoff experience to be our reserved guard and pf. Considering out potential for next, i think its safe to say we're likely parting ways with both of these guys come summer.

  4. Guys mad like we didn’t lose to Miami and Detroit and the Rockets and Golden State without Steph and the Lakers without Bron.

We couldn’t even field our best playoff rotation this year if we wanted to. Kenny is hurt. Chet is hurt. Poku was hurt.

We know Wiggs and Zai are good.
Lindy sat because he’s proved he’s gonna be good.

That’s why you win your tiebreakers and hit your damn free throws.

  5. Yeah the rotations were surprising but I’ve heard from Coach Mark, that play-in is not so important.

    My thoughts on this:
Play-in is important, just look at Memphis Grizzlies, for that play-in experience made them a legit championship contender team. We cannot develop forever & we already have building pieces, we are not lost, we know who we needed to draft, our weaknesses are & next year there will be expectations for us. Hope we get in the play-in because that’s what development really is. Games that matter.

  6. Another point. We saw the value of SGA in another way—his long defense and we saw that SGA, like love, covers a multitude of problems. Rylan has explained the entire situation wisely. We are still young and progressing with a dearth of bigs without Chet and Kendrich. We can’t accelerate this at this time. And we really could use Gradey and/or Cason Wallace, but Chet and Poku next year will make a gigantic difference.

  7. Good takes.

I’m not certain even if this team made it to a 7 game series this season that it still wouldn’t be a frustrating data collection experiment.

That was an important game last night.

I think it’s clear at this point that since a championship this year is out of the question, that no single game, regular season or playoffs, will the win-loss result matter more than the data collected/lessons learned element.

I agree with the Thunder way of thinking more often than not. But not this. I’d prefer they show a bit more consideration for a fan base hungry for wins and end the experimental phase when there is a historic log jam in the standings with under 10 games remaining. It’s just a bit too rigid of an organizational strategy for my taste.

I’m aware no fan agrees with their favorite teams decision making process 100% of the time, so I’ll roll with the punches…. but I kinda get the vibe Coach D is going to feel more and more like an AI robot coach as things get real.

  8. I ain't even gonna watch before I comment. JRE and Mann are bums and need to be gone. Next season if poku doesn't improve, he needs to be gone. God be damned if we lose another generational offensive player like Shai to this bs.

  9. The rotations yesterday was deep considering that this was a game that we needed to win… I disagree with Coach Mark when he says that the play-in playoffs isn't important… The Play-In playoffs is important because it gives our young players experiences necessary to not only to work on their games and what is the expecations for next season… When you give up 80 second half points to Charlotte and not putting them the hammer when they have a 13-point lead in the third quarter… This was a bad loss considering the consequences of this game… Obviously, our players didn't receive the wake up call from Portland on Sunday… Need to bounce back tonight against Detroit whose players will be playing hard to get another team's roster…

  10. Nice pod…ur right how nobody talks about coaching game performance, the most important team member is the coach(understanding players can't talk)

  11. When we make playoff nxt year, then its breakfast time yum, win a playoff series =lunch time, win conference = pre dinner drinks, ring= roast dinner with all the trimmings 😁

  12. It’ll help if Poku is able to knock the rust off. If he can get back to where he was earlier in the season, that’ll be huge.
