They have a 90% chance to lose their pick to the Knicks right now. Unless they lose enough games to outtank the Bulls and/or Jazz.
Utah has stronger opponents so that could be tricky.
For Dallas: SAC, Heat, Atlanta, Bulls, Spurs is not a tough schedule on paper.
Especially losing against Chicago and the Spurs would be important. These could be hard to lose.
So are we just screwed or do you see the Mavs making it. And if they do who do you want them to pick.

We’re in no man’s land right now. On Locked On Mavs last podcast, they noted we have an 80% chance to keep the pick if we get to 10th (which requires us the Bulls or Jazz to pass us).
We need to either lose out or win out (only one of those seems feasible/within our control).
It does seem like the most likely scenario is the worst of both worlds. Missing the play-in & giving our pick to the Knicks. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, but it sure looks like it probably will.
Its too late to win now. They should tank. This roster cannot win in a playoff series so why are we pushing the play in?
I have a conspiracy that if we miss the playoffs, we’re gonna get the number 1 pick. I firmly believe the draft lottery is rigged, Pelicans got Zion in 2019 because AD left. And I think the NBA knows Luka could be on his way out if we have another bad season after this. What better way to prevent that than basically gifting us Wembanyama?

Not a popular opinion I know but I’d just as soon have the pick go to the Knicks and get the KP jinx off our backs. How many times this year did you hear the comment we need to do this but oh. We can’t. We still owe the Knicks a pick. Can’t sign anyone bc of our shitty contracts. I’d like to get as close as we can to a clean slate.
We won’t out tank the Jazz they have a brutal schedule. The bulls are trying to win tho.

It sucks the Bulls can make the play-in and have a better pick than us. They should say all teams not in the play in are guaranteed to be slotted in the 1-10 spots for the lottery.
In 2k23 I approved having a single elimination tournament for the lottery teams to compete for the #1 pick. It’s a blast on there, but I imagine it would be so bad in real life.

Haha, I’ve used their simulator a few times and whenever we landed in the Top 10 we got the #1 pick.
You guys put way too much hope in a draft prospect.
The player wont be in a timeline with luka anyways. The rookie years wont be his peak.
If anything the player will be “just” a trade asset to get veteran players from tanking teams.
Getting the pick or not wont change the franchise.
Its a Mavs thing to miss the playoffs and the top 10 pick. And then you get a statement from the FO that the guys around Luka and Kyrie arent good.
Luka and Kyrie shouldnt have played since the Hornets game.
I know Luka wants to play every game but as a owner and gm you have to talk sense into him. He had 70 games to get to the playoffs.
And even if by some hail mary we get there, we a 1st round exit team or 2nd.
