[Wojnarowski] ESPN Sources w/ @BobbyMarks42: NBA and NBPA agreed to eliminate restrictions limiting a team to two designated super-max players. This would have a huge impact for Cavs, who have Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland on super max deals and Evan Mobley approaching rookie extension.

    Garland got a supermax?

    Good for him

Sure, but wouldn’t the new luxury tax rules de-incentivize teams to do this?

I don’t see any reason a team should have been restricted from paying 3 mid-level stars at the same time.

Also included in the text, the first born child of every high-spending governor will be sacrificed in ritual at All-Star weekend.

If no child exists, a favoured pet or house plant will suffice.

Yes. Anything that helps my sweet baby Cavaliers is a W in my book.

I don’t know what this mean. All I know is having one super max player is not good.

Seems pointless with the new buyout restrictions but I guess teams like OKC and the Rockets are probably pretty happy about this.

    Not going anywhere

  9. While also implementing an upper spending limit that’s in effect a hard cap in everything but name only?? Lol so stupid. So many teams are going to end up with a few big names and then have the worst supporting cast because both sides agreed to make it impossible to affordably fill out rosters with remotely decent talent in those situations.

Edit: also notable that Donovan Mitchell is a VP in the NBAPA. Funny how he’s used in this example of how this benefits players and Jaylen Brown, also a VP, was used as an example of a player who would benefit from the upper limits on contract extensions being increased from 120% to 140%. What funny coincidences! Lol super self-serving bunch.

F1 ruined me, I cannot take the term super max seriously anymore.

something I’ve been wondering, aren’t supermaxes slightly bad for everyone else? lots of big contracts like this inflate the on-paper amount players as a whole are getting paid in a given year, but the players as a whole are still only entitled to their share of BRI, so everyone winds up getting paid less than the on-paper amount (especially is BRI doesn’t exceed projections).

i guess when they start smoothing the cap from the new broadcast deal they’ll at least all get more than the on-paper amount.

  13. Couldn’t you just sign one guy to a supermax minus $10?

  14. Is this the rule that was screwing the Nets? I remember the 1st time KD asked for a trade, there were severe limitations on who the Nets could take back because Simmons was on the roster. I think net couldn’t take back Ayton in any deal. I think Bam couldn’t come back in any deal. It was stupid.

I want to see who is the first owner to offer low salary but investment in their team that’s the only way I see a work around this. Otherwise if your team gets too good you can’t compete because you will be end up playing with a bunch of min salary bums.

Doesn’t this reduce the amount of cap available for non-stars? Talking like, 7th/8th options.
