[Highlights] Lakers using garbage time vs Rockets to practice new set

LeBron at the elbow, player in each corner, player on the opposite wing, Reaves passes to LeBron to start

first scoring action: Reaves cutting behind and if he’s open, layup or foul

if that doesn’t work, Reaves sets a screen for the man on the wing, not the corner, have to communicate well here because LeBron is a ridiculous passer, gets Gabriel a layup

if that doesn’t work, turns into a spain pnr with Reaves going to the ball, the man on the wing he set a screen for now sets a screen for LeBron cutting to the rim, lob dunk

**edit**: s/o u/MrBuckBuck for these higher quality videos

Shoutout to houston for adapting to the play

  3. Rob-Dipshit

I’d rather see this than stat padding, this is good to see. Lakers haven’t had much time to fully settle with the new lineup after LeBron being out. Finally going to see these guys play together for a long stretch hopefully

  4. This is the type of X’s/O’s content I want to see more of on here. Average fans just see passing of the ball, but there’s so much more in the execution.

  5. BcuzRacecar

Reaves deadly off ball if he can get crisper with his lines, imagine with AD trailing or if Rui can learn to come up if the defense loses him.

Thanks for watching the tape n posting

LeBron essentially won the East in 2018 with this exact set. I also remember him running this shit 20 times in a row with KLove and Kyrie benched in 2017. Him, Channing Frye and James Jones came back from 30 down vs Indy in that game.

Watch out. In the playoffs this somehow becomes unstoppable.

  8. william4534

Reaves and Bron have such nice chemistry. Their collective BBIQ can dice up any team on any given possession.

Saw you in the post game thread. Thanks for putting this together. Enjoy when things are slowed down

  10. MIA used to run that action or legit identical when bosh played and ORL almost ran it as well

  11. JimmyWasRight

Austin Reaves is so good at finishing and drawing fouls.

Saw him live last Friday and it was kinda insane.

  12. J_Otherwise

That was the high elbow look that Dwane Casey was saying in Toronto. He said it took them days to set proper defenses and still lost.

  13. If this team can stay healthy, they actually will make noise in the play offs.

  14. victortristan

Ngl, this team rocks. Thank you for the breakdown.

  15. BigBane22

I feel like Lebron teams have been running this for years but good post

  16. ADalwaysthirsty

Thanks for the content and the breakdown. Nice to see something other than hot takes, tmz and upvote parties.

  17. Interesting the Lakers aren’t clearing out the corner to turn this into a more classic pinch post action. Leaving the strong side corner player lets someone tag Reaves when he cuts.

Simple sets are good for this team though. LeBron’s passing is good enough where you don’t need anything too complex to get open. With all the roster turnover at the trade deadline, you need stuff that the team can learn quick and apply comfortably come playoff time.

We need more content like this in this sub.

    Kudos, OP!

  19. I like how Daishen Nix sat as the weakside help defender and decided to do nothing on every one of these plays

  20. Rahnamatta

That play works for players with good BBIQ and good reaction

IIRC, that was the issue with the triangle offense in New York when Phil tried that. MJ, Pippen, Harper, Longley were really smart players.

  21. ablackcloudupahead

Ham hasn’t been amazing, but working newly somehow deadly Austin Reaves into the gameplan when Bron got back is exciting.

  22. LukaWigga

Was r/NBA a subreddit about basketball the whole time? Who would have known.

  23. sydchefcurry

Looks like a pretty standard horns/ pinch post set that flows off the 1 entry passing to the “big” (any player that can slot into the role like LBJ/ Sabonis/ Jokic/ Bam/ Giannis will do) then cutting around that big to the basket.

Lots of teams run some variation of this now AFAIK.

  24. dunkin_domats

Just put LeBron in the elbow and it’s over. He usually does this with the Cavs-Lue era. As long as he has a big man (Love/Frye) and a small guard (JR Smith/Kyrie/Korver) who can shoot from the corner and can cut to the basket.

This set with the Lakers is a bit different. LeBron can do hand-off or can be a screener.

keep posting this kind of content op 🙏
