Who’s the original source for this post?

  2. GonePhishn401

Honestly can’t say I’m super opinionated about this, and I doubt it’d matter to many people here if it wasn’t Tatum in question. With that being said, I think the minimum games required to qualify for a scoring title (58) is a bit low.

  3. Sharp_Mechanic5316

If Embiid played for the Celtics this wouldn’t be posted.

  4. caelen727

Yeah the problem is that Embiid was pretty close to tatum in total points with not a small amount of games less.

  5. considertheoctopus

Guys seem not to care too much about this title these days but I’m for anything that incentivized more games played. Other leagues reward total points, not scoring average.

  6. berriesnbball_17

I disagree and I really don’t think anyone in this sub would care or feel that way if it wasn’t Tatum involved. NBA is more of a per game league. If Player A scores 2101 points in 77 games and Player B scores 2100 points in 65 games then I think we’d all agree player B is the better scorer. That being said the limit for games played should be raised higher than 58 but the NBA should not switch to totals like the NFL does

What happens next year when Tatum has the highest scoring average but missed 15 games so Gianni’s or Embiid score more total points than him? Just switch it back to the way it’s been forever? Ok.

  8. Tatumisthegoat

This accolade is meaningless. I just wanna raise another banner and I think our team agrees.

  9. SaysNotBad

    I agree and disagree.

I agree because in football we go by who has the most rushing yards not the best per game average.

I disagree because we are only bringing this up now, no one had this opinion before until Tatum led the league in points. Makes us look petty.

  10. princeofzilch

Despite playing 8 less games Embiid only scored 42 points less than Tatum. Embiid is the clear the scoring champ in my eyes.

If the difference was something like 15 games and 200 points, then it would be a different discussion, but it’s really only a 1-2 game difference and Embiid is averaging 3 more ppg.

  11. JCosta04

No one said this last year when Trae Young led the league in total points. I don’t like that this drum is getting banged this year simply because Tatum has the most.

  12. Such_Butterfly8382

100% or at least a higher qualifier on min games.

  13. neostalgiac

Y’all would be screaming yo ass off if it was the other way around this is crazy

  14. arms_room_rat

I generally agree with this. Aaron Judge hit 63 home runs last year, not 0.3 per game. The NFL’s leading rusher ran for 2000 yards, not 120 per game. It’s weird that basketball does per game stats and no other league does. That being said, Embiid was the best scorer this year for sure.

  15. Interesting-Track376

This didn’t matter to me ever, but when you got guys sitting out as much as they do, yes reward the guys actually grinding.

  16. mondomovieguys

People like to say that basketball is the only sport that rewards averages but in baseball the batting title goes to the player with the best average, not the most hits.

  17. captaincumsock69

It really doesn’t matter it’s some arbitrary award like every other one

  18. glockster19m

Idk why people disagree with this

The NFL which has even more injuries than the NBA base all of their stat leaders on total, and so does basically every single professional sports league on the planet

And if you wanna complain about the amount of games in that regard, hockey plays almost the exact same amount and baseball plays more than twice as many

  19. SamLoomisMyers

Such a meaningless thing. If he averaged more ppg and someone else had more points you would all be saying the opposite.

I feel like everytime this team or someone on it comes up short, there’s a built in excuse by the fans.

When this team fails to win a title this year, it’s a failed season. No spin.

But they’ll be a parade for the All Star MVP trophy and the shoe.

  20. ksanabria08

Football does totals (ex. QB threw 5k yds, RB ran 1800yds). Baseball does both (ex. Batting average .318, 26 homers, 15 stolen bases, 3.67 ERA)

However in basketball, whose the alltime scoring leader. The guy who scored the most pts or the guy who averaged most points per game? Think that answers it

  21. CanyonCoyote

Raise the minimum to qualify to 65 but most points gets italicized on cards too so he still got something.

  22. StraightCashBND

Love Tatum, hope he wins the MVP some day, but Embiid dragged a team of overpaid frauds for a trash tier organization to the 3 seed and third best record in the league. Embiid is the MVP.
