As they should. Don’t trust that the developers and Sixers org who stand to make a ton of money off the arena will be unbiased in their assessment of its potential effects on the area.
It’s already a pain in the ass to drive through Chinatown, can’t imagine trying to do so on a gameday.
It would be amazing if everyone took public transit to the games at a center city arena, it just seems laughably optimistic to assume that they would.

Really hope it gets approved. Fingers crossed 🤞

I think this is really cool for the city, and if I lived there I would love this. But as someone in the suburbs without easy access to a rail line, I really don’t like this plan. Everything is in the perfect location currently. All stadiums together. Ample parking. Easy to get in/out. I never want this to change.

This would make center city inaccessible whenever an event was going down. Hard hard hard pass

Putting an arena in center city is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. The entire city is gonna be a gridlocked nightmare for every single game. Public transportation isn’t gonna help that at all. Septa can’t even get people home on time normally

It’s a terrible idea. I don’t understand it.

Build the stadium

This the dumbest shit. Cut it out. Don’t build this nonsense.

Regional rail goes there. It doesn’t go to the stadiums. This is a win-win for the city and the suburbs tbh

This whole thing is such a tired rehash of the same debates that happened surrounding the convention center. Newsflash people: the convention center allows Chinatown businesses to print money on convention weekends.
And don’t give me that D.C. nonsense. Their Chinatown hardly ever existed in the first place, and at this point you’d be hard pressed to find a single area of that city that hasn’t priced out average Joe’s. It’s not a good comparison to our situation.
The fact that all the doubters in this thread are listing cars and traffic as their main concern tells you everything you need to know to understand why we are lightyears behind NYC in terms of city vibrancy.
Edit: Also, this is being fucking PRIVATELY FUNDED!!! OP is all over this thread claiming it’s taking advantage of taxpayers, but how? We aren’t paying a damn thing and we’re getting a massive cash injection into a frankly blighted part of the city.

I’m incredibly skeptical of where the foot traffic or interest is going to come from to support all these proposed stores and restaurants Especially for Monday through Thursday games

I had a long-winded post about this before, but I’ll just summarize it again: if the developers and Chinatown can come together and agree on a plan, I’m all for it. If the owners of the arena make an official partnership with Chinatown, gives them a seat at the table, this solves a whole lot of issues.
As someone who lived in Atlanta for several years, I know that whatever the traffic uptick is here when events happen, it could be much worse and will be a net positive.

It’s a great plan. Regional rail is going to be improved by then service wise anyway. Why not build a stadium at a transit hub? The Sixers are going to get an arena somewhere, why lose the tax revenue?
