[Baraheni] they’re not really in a position to make significant changes with 3 of their core pieces UFA’s… unless it’s Siakam or Anunoby and to that I say… you gave up a very lightly protected 1st round pick to compete next season and you won’t be able to do that with the returns for those guys

    >which is most likely a rebuilding move. There’s flexibility to do something drastic, sure… but the way they operated at the deadline completely contradicted that.

I disagree with the premise, because that’s the sunk cost fallacy.

  2. I’m just ready to be checked out for next season already. I already now this dumb ass front office will double down despite being embarrassed by a team that will probably rebuild this offseason lol.

Yup, I also expect minimal changes, baring firing/scapegoating Nick.

We have 3 FAs this season and then OG, Pascal and Precious next year. The management is probably only okay with losing Gary out of all these players. And it’s going to be rough convincing some of these players to stay if we are taking a step back in competition.

Furthermore, we don’t even have our own pick next year! And the protections on the pick are so light, it might have as well been unprotected. We can be a bottom 6 team in the league next year and still have the pick drop out of top 6 due to lottery odds.

I have been warning everybody about this circumstance since last off season. Anybody could predict us ending up here with enough knowledge of our cap, contract and talent level.

I still don’t get how Bobby and Masai either didn’t see this coming or signed off on it. They made some horrible roster decisions over the past 2 years.

The team needs to do something, i dont mind try8ng to c9mpete even if we arent favourite if it was like the kyle and demar era because they played so great in the regular season it always gave me some false hope. We have some good players but whats the point when you are bad and are on the verge of risking our future

  5. If we run it back and see the same shit as this season I am going to lose my damn mind

If you were to trade pascal for the Blazers 1st round pick and Sharpe/Simons, that could be a pretty solid retool/small rebuild. Maybe ship off fred and resign gary and Jakob at market value plus extend OG.

I have zero idea if that’s financially possible though

This tweet is a great summary of our situation. Instead of getting players back for guys, we’re just going to let them walk for free in the off-season. Returns for OG in a trade are not going to be as good as the FO hoped. We have shit all for draft picks in the future. We have maybe 1 good prospect in our system. We have a team that lacks direction and focus and they are about to get worse.

Really just trending in the wrong direction overall and the FO has done nothing to fix this except for minor tweaks along the way, when it’s been pretty clear this squad is not good enough and needs major change.

Just a note for folks, Sharpe is an exciting player but as someone who follows that team he is a very big project. Every advanced metric puts him in the bottom of players. Great for a rebuilding team but on the Raptors who have terrible recent development success and no organization on the court I don’t think it would work

This summer could be a massive disaster if the FO doesn’t wake the fuck up.

Unless they blow it up and Tampa Tank again? Then they keep their pick right.?

The reality is, the sooner we yield that pick to San Antonio, the better as we will gain control over our picks again. If we have a somewhat similar team next year, we should still probably be hovering around the play in spots, which would mean teens to late lottery pick.

We should still definitely look to rebuild imo, but shouldn’t be afraid to take back a few bloated contracts if they players are somewhat talented and there are a bunch of picks too

. For example, if we trade OG or Siakam and it involves a bunch of picks, but a guy who does good for himself, but has a big contract that runs 2-3 years, we should go for it. As it would likely keep us somewhat competitive next year, then might become quite valuable in trade talks as an expiring the next year, as maybe teams want to make cap space and are willing to part with picks to do it.

Before the trade deadline, I was down with the idea of doing a significant re-tool, and dealing multiple core guys, but trading away out first for next year really changes the math on that. To be guaranteed to keep our pick we would need to finish with a bottom two record, which is pretty unrealistic. As such, tanking next year makes no sense.

With that in mind, I don’t see any likelihood of Siakam getting dealt. That would be a tanking move, and it just make no sense to do so.

There are really two likely options I can see:

    1. Coaching Change: Nurse seems to have lost the room, and essentially the same roster from last year finished 7 games worse in the standings. Coaches have a shelf life, and I think Masai will bring in a new voice; and/or
    2. OG trade: He clearly seems to have been available at the deadline. While talks never got serious on Siakam, the OG situation went to the final minutes. Masai didn’t get the young stud piece he was looking for, and wasn’t willing to deal OG for mediocre future picks. I think there’s a good chance the right deal does come for OG this summer (maybe at the draft).

Outside of that, the ability to make changes is pretty limited. You are priced into re-signing the UFA’s, because you would need to let all three walk to get any relevant amount of cap space, and the free agent class is pretty light this year.

A sign and trade is a possibility, but it’s less likely with UFA’s than RFA’s, and the team has minimal leverage to extract anything out of a sign and trade for a UFA, because there are no matching rights.

So, I think all three re-sign, or at least Poeltl and FVV, Siakam will definitely be back, and of course Scottie will be. I think we end up with a new coach, and likely an OG trade. Then, if things don’t work out in the early part of the season, the front office probably puts FVV back on the trade market at next year’s deadline, as Masai was famous for the “delayed sign-and-trade” back in his Nuggets days.

  13. Siakam is considered old on this team and probably won’t get much better he could even regress. I think a team would want him

  14. Muse4lp

this is why nick is gone. he only has one year left on his contract. he either get’s extended this off season or he goes. they’ll change coaches and hire one who has a vision for improving this team. we’re basically going to run it back and y’all can thank mlse for them not wanting to tank right now.

  15. unhappydaddy6110

Would Poeltl even want to resign if Siakam is traded away?

I’m pretty sure we run it all back but with everyone knowing this is the last chance. Just like we did back in 2019

  16. Kevita24

Yes…so, keep everyone and run it back again next year for the 3rd year in a row, with a team that has been shit…that sounds like a fantastic plan! because eventually, a shitty team that doesn’t fit together well will magically become good!
