It’s been 10 years since we’ve made the finals and you’re crazy if you think the Spurs are gonna sit and draft players with every first round pick we have. The Spurs have 13 first round picks through 2029 and the roster limit for an NBA team is 15. So whether you like it or not there will be a Trade. Not sure when or for who but don’t be surprised when it happens. Also, Luka will be forcing his way out of Dallas, meaning the Mavs wouldn’t have much leverage as you would think. Go take a look at the past trades that have went down from NBA players that are publicly wanting a change of scenery. Those trades haven’t been as crazy as you might think. What I don’t understand is, why not us? We have all the draft capital to make it happen, an up and coming young core with potential and the greatest coach of all time. We are going to make a move and what better way to do it then to bring one of the best players in the league to our squad. There’s a lot of people who are gonna say that the Mavs would try to send him out East but there aren’t many teams who can offer a package like some teams in the West. With all of that being said I only see the Spurs making a trade like this if we win the Wemby sweepstakes. This is my purpose trade for Luka:
When the Spurs signed Johnson to that contact I guarantee they did it with the intention to make it able to trade. Obviously when would have to resign Graham&Collins to make the money work. Luka has never played with a solid option at the 5 and he’ll get a chance to do that if the Spurs win the lottery and Draft Wemby. People are also going to mention that Luka is sort of a liability on the defense end. Let’s not pretend that when Demar arrived in San Antonio he wasn’t either. The Spurs help reshape Demar’s game and the same can be said for Luka. Finally this trade will allow the Mavs to do a proper rebuild Instead of signing older superstars and hoping it’ll workout.
