The Austin games were a massive success.
I have no worries about the team relocating. It makes a ton of sense in terms of brand expansion to involve that market more with the Spurs; especially given the massive expansion in all the small towns along I-35.
Last time I stayed in Austin the Mavs got priority on Fox Sports Southwest and that is some bullshit. Let’s make Austin undeniably Spurs country.
I want to know everyoneās opinion on this. I was okay with SA playing a few games in Austin until I saw that 11/22 SAās investors were Michael Dell and Austin investors.
Didn’t the Spurs just break ground on a billion dollar sports complex up near La Cantera?
Just gonna say itā¦ when they build the next stadium in New Braunfelsā¦. Everyone is gonna be pissed.
I hope the city rejects this. Make them ask every single year and negotiate each time depending on the needs/wants of the city.
San Antonio is 31st in market size, Austin is 35th. I don’t think there is fear of losing the team to Austin. I see it as the spurs trying to grow their brand as the SA-Austin area grows/evolves into 1 huge metroplex. Especially if they try having another Mexico game. It would be awesome to claim those fans and markets.
I don’t think the spurs are at risk of leaving. If they are then I would suspect it is from SA not being able to provide the profit for the team.
I’ll continue to support the team the best I can.
I think that the Holt family are looking for ways for the Spurs organization to be more profitable. With the addition of new investors, a new focus on stylish uniforms, the Alamodome home game, etcā¦ This also coincides with the younger Holt taking over. Itās a dynamic switch to a unique vision not seen with the Spurs before. I do NOT believe that the Spurs plan to move to Austin. I do believe that there is a future where Austin has a bigger piece of the Spurs pie, and thatās ok. San Antonio is going to have to learn to share a bit.
Side Note: If our current rebuild is successful, I fully hope that our Spurs fans will turn out like the Sacramento fan base has turned out for the first 2 playoff games.
This is all fine, but county leaders NEED to require that all county residents, the ones whoās taxes paid for the Att center and other things, are able to watch Spurs games with no extra BS sports package subscription.
