I remember being so proud of Dirk. I felt like Dirk had been overlooked and disrespected for so long and he was finally getting the credit and recognition he deserved.

He was cordial, polite and respectful as always but you could tell he wasn’t happy. I feel like moments like that made the 2011 title so much more meaningful and significant. I’m glad Dirk can appreciate the incredible season he had now that the sting of the loss isn’t as sharp.

Luka will have this exact convo later in his career

Those glory years with Dirk sure were beautiful

It’s nice to see an actual player care about his team and the city and it’s success. Most players today seem like they could care less about winning and or bringing in a championship they just get paid and hop teams.

I remember being proud and heart breaking for him. He truly deserved the award considering the playoff exit that year

So humble. Dirk is my personal hero as a European growing up in the US. The GOAT!

Miss watching this man play so much 😭😭

Dirk’s career was a literal epic. From obscurity, to early glory, to tragedy, to exile, to redemption and ultimate glory, to passing the torch to his basketball son in his old age. You couldn’t write a better story.

Same when they won the western conference in 2011.

He did not want that western conference trophy at all.

No words for how much this man means to me and Mavs fans in general, real life hero

You could never let us down Dirk.

He deserves the world. In addition to being an all time great on the court, dude is an awesome ambassador for basketball internationally and has done a ton of charity and outreach work (and very rarely toots his own horn).

The board of his foundation has amazing people like Lisa Tyner (former? Mavs payroll accountant that really helped Dirk get settled in Dallas – she has stories about helping him cash his checks because they weren’t getting cashed) and Kim Bohunny (super important NBA exec for international stuff, she and Dirk kind of came up together).
