First round exit by a #1 seed is a failure in the NBA.
I respect his answer and its incredibly positive. Well said and very professional especially after coming off a loss.
The question wasn't are YOU, Giannis, a failure. Was the season a failure. An NBA franchises ultimate goal is to make money. How do you get the most money? Play the most games and at the end of the year win it all, which what? Makes more money. More ad revenue, more merchandise sales, higher attendance etc etc.
So if your goal, that was set at the beginning of the year, wasn't met…..what can you say about attaining said goal? The attempt was failed. No matter how valiant the effort.
Giannis is a superstar and makes a ton of dough. He did his job to the best of his abilities. He didn't fail at that. He didn't fail at giving it his all every game.
But as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, yes the season was a failure.
He didn’t want to make it personal … but Jordan always did..
Jokes aside Giannis is such a real genuine dude. This kind of mentality is so much needed in today’s perfectionist world.
Jordan, Bird, Magic would definitely say it is a failure if you ask them. Kobe once said the same. I don't understand the confusion about the word failure. Making excuses to make the failure less painful is denial. And that is a fair question. Journalists have to ask tough questions.
You’re all class. What a brilliant response.
Time to ask for a trade sir…. You’ve done all you can for Milwaukee
An example of athlete being smarter than journalist.
Giannis changes the paradigm, take notes.
Systems over goals!
Great Answer!!, love it!
It was a fair question tbh but what a great response.
It's because reporters always see things in binary terms because nuance doesn't get clicks or sell papers.
Wow is enhlish got soooooo much better
Sometimes there's more to life than just winning. Only people that know what true hunger feels like would understand. Giannis is a real inspiration.
One of the best answer i've heard from a thinking athlete..Giannis just gava a TED talk to all of us which most probably made us re-think… 😀
nice answer bro!
When he retires he head coach for sure 💯🙏🏽
People seriously still watch the NBA?
Boy just schooled an adult on life. That reporter should go back n reflect on what was said n look at his life
Great response brother💪🏽💪🏽
77 years of the nba and they are in the books as the first 1 seed to lose to an 8 while winning only 1 game so its obv not a failure if they made the record book. Also shooting 50 percent at the line for a guy that once shot 77 for a season is a huge failure but some people dont get up for big games
Overrated Player😂
He has me watching the NBA again. Such a thoughtful player. He has such an amazing perspective about playing a game. Also hes really good at playing that game. Can't help but respect him.
First of all: Perfect mature speech. Shows how much you have grown as a person👍🏼
That being said, I got news for you Giannis. There IS failure in sports as there IS failure in every aspect of life.
There is no such thing as catastrophic failure, but there is FAILURE.
Either you call it failure or "steps to success", it is still failure to achieve your realistic goals.
Actually there has to be failure in order to achieve success.
What you need to do is NOT pretend that there is no failure.
Instead embrace it, accept it, learn from it, think of what you need to change, then move forward.
That is the right mindset.
Not accepting failure will lead you nowhere.
Not accepting failure led you here.
Because all these years, inspite of your hard work and great ethics, you tend to think that everything is going great, so just carry on.
1) You failed to identify, that the Bucks is not the team through which you will be able to play your best basketball, so you re-signed with them.
2) You failed to identify that coach Bud, is a medriocre coach, without a third but not even a second plan in offense or defense.
3) You failed to identify that Kriss, Drue, Brook and the rest of the gang, great people though they are, they are at best average players (overestimated of course), unable to help you get anything
4) You failed to identify that you are only getting older and it's a waste of your talent not to join a team that can get you even higher.
5) You failed to identify that you need to get a proper coach, and shoot as many free throws as needed in order to reach a decent and stable 75% percentage. Ten years later you still cannot shoot free throws. They are called free for a reason.
6) You failed to identify that you need to get a proper coach and practice as much as needed to learn how to shoot mid-range and 3pts.
7) You failed to identify that you need to learn how to play close to the basket with your back.
8) In general you fail constantly to identify your mistakes this is why you do not change. Yes you got muscles, yes you got more skills. But you are still the same Giannis with the same gameplay that you had 10 years ago only a bit refined. You need to change man. Shaq didn;t play the same way throughout his career. Nor did Jordan, Nor Kobee, nor Lebron. They changed. That's what made them great. They evolved.
And speaking of Jordan, do remember that actually MJ aknowledged (!) his failures.
That's what made him great!
"I failed so many times (he said), and thats why I became great"
He didn;t say "I stepped so many times". He said I failed.
And they he learned from that and evolved.
Jordan kept flying through the air when he was young.
Then he learned how to shoot mid range jumpers.
Then he how to perfect the fade away, etc
Accept it was a fail man.
And it was a BIG TIME fail.
Learn from it, evolve and it will all work out!
Love you. Love watching you. Love your ethics.
Get better for next season!
Great players always have this sort of approach to win or loss. They focus on playing game rather than winning.
Best question should have been, What specific adjustments can you see to level up the outcome?
Come to the English Premier league and hear the most stupid questions these journalists ask players and managers! It is unbelievable. Giannis dealt with that reporter very well. I felt his emotions through that reply. He controlled himself very well, not to be personal. Much love and respect to you son….❤❤❤
