What are we looking for, or not looking for next season from this team? If you’re the new coach and get handed this roster as is, what would you do with it? πŸ€πŸ†πŸ€

Raptors’ latest season proved to be a rough one to watch as a fan of the team, an obvious struggle to find cohesion amongst it’s players and apparently behind the scenes between coaching staff really ruined the look of the team. Despite high expectations and a promising start, the year ultimately fell short and left many disappointed and questionning we’re do we go from here?

    Thoughts?

Personally, In Masai We Trust ![img](emote|t5_2s5sb|3921)![img](emote|t5_2s5sb|10512)![img](emote|t5_2s5sb|5531) not too worried about it

Lock the entire team in the gym until they can make their free throws.

Well there’s only 7 good players, so I would
    Never play the bench

Only Fred is capable of generally running the offense, so he will need to play 40mpg and carry the team at times when nobody else steps up

Pascal is the only one capable of scoring in isolation and creating advantages for others, so he will need to play 40mpg even if he gassed out by the 4th

OG is stronger than Jak so he will have to guard centres and do all the role player work

So with Fred OG and pascal overworked, and no other offensive talent, will need to crash the offensive boards at the expensive of conservative defense and energy recovery

Since there’s No real opportunity to make an innovative offense, I’ll have to do that on defense. So instead of leveraging the obvious strength of my roster to switch every and lock up individual players 1:1, which won’t work anyway because most of our time and energy is spent sprinting back from trying to get an offensive board, I’ll just double or triple team primary players and let Chris run around trying to swat 3’s

This will probably piss everyone off, so I won’t want to talk to my players directly, and will need a real asshole β€œconsultant” as an assistant to run interference.

    I think it will work.

Best scenario would be that Fred and GTJ pick up their player options and we run it back 1 more year with a new rookie and add another veteran. Our team would be pretty deep for another run if we can stay healthy.

If we could fill roster spot 9 and beyond with young players that will be good jolt to our development system πŸ‘

Well if I was handed this roster, I would probably just cry.

An offensive system that utilizes Poeltl in the PnR with Fred, Scottie and Pascal while utilizing off-ball movement to get our shooters open.

Tone down the defensive aggressiveness at the point of attack to give our perimeter defenders a chance at slowing down penetration.

Utilize the young guys on the bench (Koloko, Precious, 13th pick) in consistent roles. If we don’t get a backup PG with our pick or the MLE then play Dowtin/Banton as a backup PG.

Point Scottie with 2-3 good shooters around him who move well without the ball, could be OG, a pick like Hawkins, Poeltl, and either Siakam or a shooter we get for Siakam like a Sharpe or Simmons.

Bench should be GTJ if he’s into being a bench flamethrower, Give Dalano more opportunities as a 2nd team playmaker, bench bigs are Koloko, Boucher, Precious. If we’re lucky we might even get a healthy OPJ, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

There isn’t much you can do tbh, if you were a new coach and got this same team, yes you can try to play the bench more, let the young guys develop, but the reason Nurse didn’t was because he wanted to prioritize winning over everything and even after doing that we still lost. The bench is complete garbage so giving them more extended minutes is like asking for Ls because they just aren’t good, you still have the same flaws with lack of shot creation, shooting and a majority of players playing the same position with the same skill sets. It is very easy to defend a team that is so predictable on offence and has lack of shooting.

  10. halve the defense, double the FVV bricks. /s

put in an offense, and stop gambling and being over-aggressive on defense. make your key guys accountable to not hijack the offense or be a pylon on defense; stay in front of your man. Commit to development, developing communications and trust.

Commit to developing Scottie as the primary ball handler (need him to develop) and move FVV to SG / 6th man in the rotation. Give Precious and OG clearly defined roles and a path to success. Reduce Pascal and FVV’s usage and minutes. Install offensive sets and make off-ball movement mandatory and key to offense (since we have a passer with great vision but no generational offensive talent). Scottie gets the ball in the clutch and he decides what to do with it.

If Kings can do what they did, we can too. At beginning of season lots of ppl would’ve picked us over them.

This exact roster? I’m selling off Pascal & Fred.

Get young, hand scottie the keys & try get more talent through the draft. For a team thats rated player development as one of their best assets we truly hate developing blue chip talents.
