Dillon Brooks – Should the Brooklyn Nets gamble on NBA Free Agent this offseason?

The Memphis Grizzlies seemed to make it very clear they would not be bringing Dillon Brooks back this off-season and that he will become a free agent. Should the Nets think about getting in on bringing a guy like Brooks into the fold? The Locked on Nets guys take a look at the situation and how it relates to what is happening in Brooklyn right now.

With the Nets rebuilding, what kinds of players should they have on their radar now and in the future? Does a guy like Dillon Brooks represent the type of player Sean Marks and company used to go after back before the superstar era in Brooklyn started with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving? It’s an interesting debate with the guys weighing in on both sides.

  1. This team could do with a bit of mongrel and he is a two way player however do we want this type of win at all cost dirty player on the team? Joe Tsai is probably too soft to tolerate this kind of player.

  2. Ok for some reason my spidey senses thought Mr. Dillon Brooks name would be brought up on the Brooklyn circuit…

First off don't know Brooks other then he was a really good defender in Memphis and helped give the team an edge on being competitive…

Now this whole villian arc thing and his inability to talk to the media feel like things Brooklyn wouldn't want to add to their new core ..

If Dillon Brooks could just focus on being a top notch defender and let his scoring improve on the court Brooks would stylistically fit Brooklyn new structure and help bring a competitive edge….

However I am unsure of what the real version of Dillon Brooks will be next season?

  3. If Brooklyn took on Brooks he would have to sign a mid level exception contract. More importantly he would fill a roll as a possible starter or backup playmaker to help lead the second unit…

But Brooks has a lot to improve on character wise if any team is going to give him a chance and Brooklyn probably won't jump to head of the line and instead will see how the market impacts his value…

  4. Don’t even think about it. We don’t need any more drama. He’s not good enough offensively. He doesn’t fit with what we have. If Memphis doesn’t want him under any circumstances, should we want him. I say big thumbs down.

  5. Hopefully, this summer, the Nets stay focused on what they really need and not be distracted by eye candy and other ":shiny" free agents that become available. In Marks last press conference, he indicated that the Nets were going to target bigs and "nastier" players. I think targeting, certain players in this upcoming draft, is the best route. I think we should draft Zach Edey, 20 years old, 7'4", 290 pounds "sleeper" out of Purdue. 25.3 pts, 14.6 reb, 2.4 blk. Leonard Miller is another player we should target. 19 years old, 6'10, 211 pound small forward. 20.5 pts, 12.3 reb, 1 blk, 1.2 stl, 1.9 ast, 2.3 TO. .A lot of effort should go into trading Harris, Thomas, and Mills.

  6. Wow, you guys are on it because I was thinking this very same thing. However, you have to find a way to move DFS because how many wings can you have That are just inconsistent shooters? And also, what would that starting lineup look like? And where Would you be putting cam Johnson at the four? I think your rebounding and interior would get worse even if your perimeter defense was lockdown teams with hammer you inside.

However, I do like the idea of bringing in a dog and somebody people don’t really like, but can they tame him because Memphis simply couldn’t get him to harness that appropriately.

  7. For me, the first order of business besides cam Johnson, of course, is going to Toronto and seeing what can be done about Pascal Siakam. Toronto is in transition. I’m not sure Fred Van fleet is coming back. The nets have an $18 million trade exception and he is a guy I think would fit really well next to Nic Claxton. If Dillon Brooks could be part of some sort of larger three-way trade with Memphis and Toronto with the Nets, getting Dillon Brooks and Pascal, Siakam, and send out DFS and Royce O’Neale, and Cam Thomas and picks that might be interesting.

  8. Is D'Angelo Russell a good ex? We gave him up in KD signing. We didnt turn him into a real value. We couldve signed KD w/out a productive Russell

  9. Fire Marks. Trade DFS, O'Neale & Dinwiddie. Id love to sign Porzingis but I know its a pipedream. This is a very deep Draft. Leonard Miller, GG Jackson, Maxwell Lewis, Bryce Sensabaugh, Dariq Whitehead, Kobe Bufkin, Jordan Hawkins, Bilal Coulibaly, Ryan Rupert or Dereck Lively. Probably 4 or 5 of those guys will be available when Nets pick.
