Jock Landale exploited a weakness in the Denver Nuggets bench

Devin Booker went for 46 points in game three on an insane 20/25 shooting efficiency. Sometimes, there isn’t much you can do about a great player making shots at home. But the hero of game 3 for the Phoenix Suns might’ve been Jock Landale, the backup big who put pressure on Jeff Green and Aaron Gordon in ways that they are ill-equipped to combat. Namely, offensive rebounding.

On today’s edition of THE LIST, Adam Mares breaks down some of the adjustments that the Denver Nuggets made to free up Jamal Murray off ball, Cam Payne’s success in transition, and some of the other under-the-radar battlegrounds in the Suns-Nuggets NBA playoff series.

0:00 – Intro
0:48 – Blind pig to free up Murra
1:28 – Suns empty corner attack
3:06 – Murray over-dribbling
4:55 – Jock Landale
8:21 – Cam Payne and Denver’s transition defense
11:15 – Jeff Green in PnR

  1. Excellent breakdown Adam and here's hoping the coaching staff pay attention as I'm confident we have enough to steal Game 4 and finish them back home in Denver… Let's Go DNVR!

  2. Jock landale sequence was actually all Jeff fault, letting Book to go freely, not boxing out Jock and in 3rd position he just running slowly back, you know CB is goin for ofenssive reb as our game plan so Jeff needs to sprint back, saw 4 more mistakes by Jeff, horrible!!!

  3. This was such awesome and appreciated, high level input, for me. Greatly appreciated, Adam!

  4. They really need to add more touches and shots to KCP because otherwise we're basically staffing the 'idea' of the 'death by math' roster without quite fully realizing it. Often times, KCP is exactly and most consistently, the piece they're not 'going to' by default throughout the game. Also really can't help but note 10 minutes of CB in this game vs 30~ in the previous two. And in the same game where the guys he was covering and we were raving about, both go off harder than ever.

  5. Ayton's playing like he doesn't care, which is translating to not hustling and playing physical, like Jock Landale is. Ayton's got to decide if he wants to continue playing basketball or not.

  6. I've never enjoyed listening to anybody talk about basketball like this before. You just love the game and this Nuggets team.

You are a national treasure, Adam.

    Thank you for existing!

  7. I'm already thinking about quitting watching basketball, just can't this league, pure marketing scheme with Refs pushing Lakers, we are toast in the next round, and then all analyst will pretend, that's it's because of sports reasons and Lakers are the best, just can't take it…

  8. Suns fan here
    great break down

I think what all you said is gonna be a big factor of this series going full 7 and Denver having pressure to make these adjustments and not lose game 4

    if denver loses game 4

Nugs fan better PRAY that the Suns bench doesnt start scoring

  9. just what i saw, Murray over dribbling, turnaround fade shots, not passing to the open man, forcing it into a crowded pain, playing bartonesque, …fast suns transitions, high court defense. i wish Murray stoped playing hero ball against guys stronger than him. its not bubble Murray now, he had few good games, but this way of play does not serve the nuggs well. great analysis by Adam.

  10. I enjoyed your breakdown. It's nice to come to a channel (as a Suns fan) that isn't bitching about Ayton! Ayton deserves it, but I need a break. Great breakdown of the game!!

  11. Lose one game and you all are SO doom and gloom. Listening to the Suns podcast they believe. It's sad.
