NBA Players are allowed to retrieve the ball from fans during dead ball. There is precedent and the only reason we are having a conversation is because the Suns fan was the owner who did not let go of the ball.

Here’s a great view of CP3 “going into the stands” to “snatch” the ball from a court side fan.

Notice the fan immediately let’s go of the ball and does not attempt to hold onto it at all once CP3 grabs it. Nor does the fan initiate any physical contact with CP3.

A player went into the stands to retrieve the ball and give it to the ref.

It only looks bad because Ishiba didnt let go of it. If he gave it to jokic, there would be no other altercation

  2. ACasualPenguin7

The only reason we are having a discussion is because joker shoved a fan/owner. No shove and no one cares

  3. mathwhilehigh1

Yea, people commenting on this have seemingly never watched game. Players do that all the time.

This drama is amazing lol. Just fine Ishbia and Jokic and no suspension to Jokic. I would say no fine to Jokic, but according to the rules I don’t really see how they couldn’t. Imo though he shouldn’t be fined

  5. LaughLearnPunk

This is so hilarious watching you and Nuggies have a conniption over a nothing burger. Next game.

  6. Mat Ishiba is going to be as annoying as Cuban isn’t he. I can just feel it

Bruh am I the only one that found the whole thing hilarious? Jokic was calling him a fan 💀. I think this just needs to serve as a friendly reminder to not slow the pace down as a fan, and don’t go showing even the slightest bit of aggression towards a fan either. Play on, have yourself a 50k fine Joker, we’ll see you in game 5.

  8. Why is nobody talking about how Okogie was on the ground in front of Ishbia, and everyone there was trying to help him up.

  9. cheap_chalee

Does anyone think Jokic’s reaction stems from the fact that he had no idea who the dude was and he was confused/surprised why this “fan” wasn’t giving him the ball? I mean, how many owners are established enough to be known by opposing team players either by name or face? Especially this guy, who just bought the team recently?

I’m willing to bet if you put all the owners in a room and had to identify them, most people wouldn’t get a passing grade. I’m not even sure they’d get 60% correct. Most owners, even those whose names we see and recognize from articles, could probably walk around fairly anonymously with most people not having a clue they literally own a team (and are rich AF) because we don’t know what they look like and they typically aren’t part of “The Show”. That might change with this guy though.

Lol the world is completely upside down if people are using CP3 to set moral precedent for Jokic.

Will Ishiba be fined? Probably not, but he definitely antagonized Jokic and affected the game.

  12. Right-Paramedic-5324

“Suns owner interferes with a live NBA game and keeps the ball away from the 2x MVP.” Should be the headline… Nuggets get no respect.

  13. TinnieTa21

Idk anything about this guy but what if he just didn’t know what to do in such a short period of time?

Sure, he could have just been trying to be an asshole for the sake of being an asshole too. Who knows?

  14. Sti8man7

CP3 found a way to hurt the Suns even when he is not playing

  15. This whole thing is silly. An NBA player got the ball. A perfectly healthy man fell back into his chair. It’s a complete nothing. Everyone involved should just state that and move on.

  16. MumIsGone

Honestly don’t see why anyone can be mad at Jokic, dudes in an intense playoff game, Ishiba should have given the ball back and not touched Jokic end of story. I’m a Suns fans but I can’t believe some people want Jokic suspended, it would ruin the series along with being bullshit.

  17. PotatoToaster9000

Just fine the two and move on with it. This really shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

  18. Tapprunner

If anything, Ishbia should receive a 1-game ban. He tried to slow down the opposing team so they couldn’t run on his team. If Jokic faces any repercussions, it would be total bullshit.

  19. bernardhops

How was the the guy pulling on Jokic’s jersey not thrown out

  20. Superb_University117

No. The only reason we’re talking about this is because Jokic pushed him.

Had Jokic just been grabbing for the ball and never pushed him, it would have been done 30 seconds after it happened.

  21. RealPrinceJay

I don’t think this conversation is only because he’s the owner. If a regular fan decided to hold the ball and Jokic gave him a shove there absolutely would be a conversation as well, and I think people would actually view Jokic’s action more negatively.

  22. 420Minions

At the risk of downvotes and being called biased and blah, blah, blah, Jokic is too good to keep ending up in these dumb spots. Every year he’s back in trouble for overreacting to incidents. Leave that shit to your teammates and focus on being the best dude on the court. One day the league’s gonna come down harder just due to frequency and everyone loses

  23. joshuads

Ishbia was being a dick, but lets not pretend this clip is at all similar to what just happened. There was a player at Ishbia’s feet. Jokic was also reaching over a down player to take the ball from a fan.

  24. hoagieclu

kind of hilarious to see people justifying the jokic shove with “well everybody was crowding him”. the rule book clearly says players can’t deliberately go into the stands for a reason, let’s not act like jokic didn’t purposely put himself in that situation. owner was wrong to hold onto the ball that long, but jokic cannot just go shove anybody he pleases in his quest to get the ball back. he has a history of losing his temper and physically lashing out yet people always seem to have a convenient excuse for him.

  25. Just ban Ishiba from courtside.

Jokic already got the tech. He already got punished. But Suns owner should also get punished.

I think a fine is too much. Hence, just banned from courtside.

  26. glockster19m

Imo the fact that it’s someone associated with the team in any official capacity means it should have been at least a delay of game if not a technical

Otherwise why shouldn’t teams just litter in people on the payroll Courtside to disrupt play whenever possible

  27. Cacanator

Bro really tried to protect the ball from Jokic, like he was gonna make a move with it or something. What an idiot.
