The Toronto Raptors are already facing their difficult salary cap situation, and it could cost them Gary Trent Jr. What would make it even worse, is the big threat of losing the shooting guard to free agency and getting nothing in return. A recent report from Bleacher Report writer Eric Pincus suggests the Raptors are preparing to part ways with Trent after two and a half seasons with the player. Rival executives seem to be ready to jump at the chance to sign the shot maker.
How did the Raptors get themselves into this position? Masai Ujiri’s acquisition of Jakob Poellt at the trade deadline ensured three key players would be on expiring contracts in Poeltl, Trent, and also Fred VanVleet. The Raptors are already operating so close to the tax line that it seemed impossible to keep all the players so the next steps become damage control.
Is it possible for the Raptors to still get value out of Gary Trent Jr’s free agency? What would a potential sign and trade look like? Is there a chance Trent simply takes his player option and stays on with the Raptors?

Gary is just too one dimensional for the money he wants. If Jak doesn't sign… That would be a disaster.
Where do you think Gary Trent Jr. will be playing next season?
i think we should trade VanVleet instead of GTJ and let Barnes run the point next season.
If I were him I’d take the player option and look to be traded. Maybe I’m dreaming, but I think his value went down this year.
Lol GTJ wants a short term deal to up his stock since he played like crap near the end of the seaso. He wants to up his stovk next year so he cant get a better deal from another team. He know Raps will eventually trade him.
Sign and tŕade Gary for Reaves and Lonnie Walker get 2 for 1.
If Trent is looking to compete and if there are any takers I would say leave the Raptors. The Raps are rebuilding and it may take years to really compete. Are there any teams interested with Trent's talent?
We lose shooting if Gary leaves. I would rather see Fred and Pascal leave and get younger and let Gary, OG and Scotty to develop. Fred and Pascal had the majority time on the floor and shots and they did not get any better. If Gary got more time and shots he would be as good and maybe better than Fred. Get two more shooters for Fred and Pascal.
Bruh this is gonna be a tough off season for everyone but the bottom feeders this off season is gonna be the first of teams stopping over paying players thats not worth what they asking for the new salary cap rules is designed to stop teams for stacking decks so teams has to be wise on what they spend their money on i believe Trent has no choice but to opt in and get traded but Van Vleet is a whole different story
He didn't show up for the play in so he ain't worth s*** in my eyes. Just a regular season shot creator.
