Boston Celtics four-level failure in Game 4, Joe Mazzulla admits timeout mistake

Joe Mazzulla talked to the media on Tuesday and admitted that he should have called a timeout at the end of the game. Yes, he made a mistake, but he wasn’t the only one. Marcus Smart and Jayson Tatum had big roles in the last play falling apart (Al Horford is excused but maybe he shouldn’t be because everyone should have known better). Toss in the failure on James Harden and Jaylen Brown added a fourth level to the failure. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal and Tom Westerholm discuss all that, look at all the ways the last play went wrong, and how the team has so far to go to reach their full potential.

  1. You guys let them play not calling a timeout more than 3 times this series and you missed everytime

  2. those two are crazy , now Harford have to call a timeout , why we have a Cough ,this is the problem nobody want to call it what it is , the cough do not know what is doing this is the post season we don't have time to babysitting a cough.

  3. Agree with all your take on the multiple options that should have been done by different players on that last play in OT..however, Embiid traveled on that play before the pass to Harden. JB actually made a good read that had Joel rattled. Everyone just missed that travel, maybe because Harden made a great shot. I've watched the replay in 0.25x speed multiple times, I count 4 steps. He moved his pivot foot twice.

  4. The Celtics are going to lose one or two games in a series that they should have won. They continue to be a low-IQ, non-clutch team. They have collapsed under pressure in the regular season and playoffs the last two years. They just don't play like a team capable of winning a title.

  5. If we were having this conversation a few years ago when they were much less experienced in the playoffs than it would be understandable. They are experienced enough to know that in the playoffs at the end of games situational awareness should be higher and knowing how much time is on the clock or not is inexcusable. That’s a Rookie mistake and low and behold they have a Rookie Head Coach and in the playoffs late in games teams take on the personality of the Head Coach. But the problem isn’t even that he doesn’t call a timeout. Why wasn’t he SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS TO GET THE THE PLAY STARTED… Call them idiots call them out promote proactive thinking down the stretch. This is a mistake that should be understandable for a team like New York or even Philly their lack of playoff situational experience should produce mistakes of that kind. But for a very good team that has been here multiple times before to make that mistake is saying that Tatum doesn’t have Harvard level IQ Like Dorris Burke suggests that’s a universally simple understanding amongst ball players that knowing where you are on the court and how much time is on the clock is a must for knowing when you’re on the floor and even when you’re not on the floor because you could be sent In to play…!!!!

  6. I'm not gonna lie, i'm not even mad for game 4 lost "76ers HAVE TO WIN that game" (Benefit of the Doubt) and they did

Joe Mazulla didn't call timeout to me is okay, Smart Make it you win, Smart missed it you lose….

Remember game 1 Last Year ??? The C's were down by 1 & Udoka did the same thing by not calling timeout and Tatum wins it at the Buzzer.

When they Win, its all forgettable… when they lose, let's talk about it for every single second…. Celtic's nation man…. is toxic as fuck

  7. These damn Celtics man so frustrating to watch in close games cause i know they will inevitably fuckk up it's in their DNA sadly. They fold under pressure n i don't see them winning no chip like this. But i can't stop watching n rooting for them… FML

  8. He said in hindsight he shoulda called timeout. He also talked about how it’s worked out for him in the past.

  9. Don't put the blame solely on JB, they had enough time, JT goes through his dribbling menu which takes up 5 seconds game over! Tatum should not be the initiator for the final shot. he can get the final shot but not create the action. Celtics keep making that CRUCIAL mistake in crunch time.

  10. JT shoulda had the ball at the top of the key and get to his midrange. Not running towards the baseline.

  11. Tatum should have went up instead of dishing it to Smart. I would have lived with the miss/make and not been so critical on situational awarness related to timing. Tatum really needs to add to his arsenal is how to draw fouls by using the D against themselves like Butler does SO WELL.

  12. This team’s identity is “ A Pushover “ they just keep finding more incredible ways to lose it’s really been impressive …!!!!!💯☘️

  13. I know y’all talking about them messing up on the last play but this would have never happened if JB just stays home. Embiid would have either tied it up and we get a chance to win or go to OT and beat on a already gassed Embiid and harden

  14. I’m sorry but someone with some authority needs to walk into that room and demand accountability

  15. It’s easy for y’all to stop the replay and say give Derrick the ball lol this shit is happening in real time he has a double coming with 6 seconds left

  16. Pure comedy “ I feel for Jaylen, he saw Tatum on Embiid realized it was probably going to be a bucket so he helped” y’all feel for Jaylen for losing us the game? Giving up a 3 over 2? Tatum is 6’9 with a big wingspan and he also had 4 blocks at that point. You gotta stay home and live with the results

  17. Never should have gone to OT in the first place. That is the story. The Celtics aren't serious and they aren't ready. Period!!

  18. Marcus smart always does this. He’s a selfish player who loves the spotlight. Face the light

His slow pace has probably cost this team 2 championships

  19. I’m pushing 70 , I was born there.
To say I’m a fan would be an understatement.
Also I don’t like any negative comments. To be honest , if we win tonight and Thursday I hope they go through the rest of the field like a hot knife through butter .
    Go Celtics !

  20. 100% Agree with your take on what happened at the end of this game. But they have been doing this in many games this year without any corrections by Mazzulla. It’s just frustrating to see how they play at crunch time.
