[Zach Lowe] Poole is a glaring liability on defense. He seems to be somehow getting worse. If Golden State bows out and wants to preserve its foundational Curry-Green-Thompson trio while minimizing its tax bill, exploring Poole trades is the common sense way to do it.

Does anyone want Poole on that contract tho?

  2. TatersTot

It is fucking insane how quick this league moves

  3. gustriandos

Good luck finding someone to trade for him

  4. sctthuynh

    Makes total sense.

The problem is, Poole has little to no value at the moment.

In the event it cost assets to trade him, I don’t see the Warriors making a move.

Except for small moves like Porter and Payton, Warriors front office have been swinging and missing since 2017 (KD signing).

Edit: Forgot about the Wiggins trade, which was a homerun.

If they actually want to trade Poole to reduce their payroll, that means Poole is going to one of those team that has cap space to absorb the contract. A salary dump like that would require GS to attach pick to Poole

They need to explore Klay and Poole trades this summer.

time for the Dubs to trade for Ben Simmons and have Draymond teach him the ropes of what he does, because he definitely has the ability, and if they can get Wiggs to lock in to the system maybe they can bring back prime rookie Ben Simmons.

Remember when Wiggins was the Warriors trade chip guy

  9. Nets trade Simmons for Poole. Who says no? Who asks for more assets?

I saw people purposing Kelly Olynk, Ochai Agbaji and 3 picks for poole.. just yesterday. The fact that anybody thinks he has any value with a contract that big is laughable.

if and when they collapse I think I’d rather be in on poole than giving green a big deal. I mean id rather keep both but betting on Poole to develop is a better chance than betting on green to play hard for 82 games in his mid 30s

  12. BearRedWood

If they trade him for nothing it would only be to save $, they are already over the cap through 2025

  13. Zachkah

Still makes no sense that they paid him early, knowing a new CBA was on the horizon.

  14. StevenVsGoliath

How the f are you finding a trade for Poole after this season and post season?

  15. Deschain_1919

Jesus his new contract hasn’t even kicked in yet.

Poole’s play this season has certainly been very concerning and he he is currently unplayable. At the same time, his mistakes are almost entirely mental and we’re 12 months removed from him being considered a legitimate 3 level scorer with elite quickness at the age of 23 after working hard on his game in the G League. Maybe the situation is completely untenable with the organization but if not, I don’t see the urgency for a straight salary dump, especially considering the Warriors will need to establish some young talent on the roster as the core ages out. If you don’t get an offer you like, maybe roll the dice on a young player improving his defense/ shot selection with another year of maturity.

I’d love to bring him home. We need youth badly, but I don’t know how interested the Warriors would be in Middleton if he picks up his option.

  18. redundantPOINT

    Trade him at his lowest

    *light years* ahead

  19. epicnaenaealert

He needs to be traded to a small market team. He needs to be humbled.

I’ve been a Poole denier since the start but the swing in the other direction is insane. Yes his contract is bad. Yes he’s been playing bad. But everyone acting like he’s on step from China is crazy. He’s still a good player when he gets hot and he definitely has a spot in the league. He played well in Game 3 against the Lakers but everyone just remembers the stupid last shot.

I think the whole issue with the Warriors is curry makes such crazy shots that everyone wants to be like Curry but for anyone else those shots don’t go in nearly often enough

The Warriors title window is open as long as Curry is on the team. Lacob doesn’t want to pay a big tax but his choice is to either pay the tax or see his team and it’s valuation fall apart over the next 2-3 years.

Given the above and that Klay and Dray are only under contract for 1 – 2 years, I think it’s more likely GSW will go all in and package Poole, Kuminga, and picks for someone like Pascal Siakam or Demar DeRozan before the new CBA goes into effect on July 1st. After that, the team probably hopes Klay and Draymond will take a smaller cap hit when their contract is up or they’ll let Draymond walk (IIRC Lacob said he will not let Klay walk).

I could be completely wrong and they repeat their mistake with Wiseman and just trade Poole for peanuts. It would be a comically bad mismanagement of assets again but it’s possible they don’t maximize Curry’s window and just re-sign Dray/Klay and surround them vet minimums and pray they win another championship

  22. Daddy_Phat_Sacs

Kyrie, Brooks, Simmons the possibilities are limitless

  23. bigbaldheadNR

Poole is falling and Duncan Robinson is rising. Funny how quick things change in this league. Gets me hard fr.

  24. boogswald

In the playoffs, guys are just done at a certain point. Some of them get exploited and they get learned and they’re done. You don’t have them any more.

  25. jayinscarb

Dude went from HOFer to garbage can in a year lol

  26. joaovitorsb95

IMO the Magic should look into this. Something like Gary Harris and Isaac for Poole. Maybe throw in the 36th pick.

Poole’s (although now questionable) shooting is excatly what would make them a playoff team right away.

  27. cabezon8

Not gonna happen, we don’t give up on our players easily especially one that has shown us he is capable of contributing to championships, y’all can keep on wishing the warriors will fall apart.

JP is a 23 year old microwave guard who just needs a different scenery than playing under the tutelage of a guy who knocked him out. He’ll have better than expected trade value
