Good read. To be fair, Bellamy played a classic center role and had no expectations put on him outside of grabbing the ball and dunking it. He was a player that came to NY and immediately had a drop in productivity after his initial season with us. Randle has poor play in the post season but not for lack of trying. Bellamy just legitimately never gave af if he dropped 10 or 40.

Point being is that the Randle issue can be fixed with better spacing, better 2 – 3 offensive sets, a more ball movement driven offense that would benefit everyone, OR a blockbuster trade. The only way you could fix the Bellamy issue was by trading him.

Vacc, as always, is pretty spot on with his observations. In more modern eras, other teams have done the same as well. The Bad Boy Pistons traded HOF Adrian Dantley for Mark Aguirre, who was more open to being a secondary piece to Isiah and Dumars, and they won back-to-back immediately afterward. There was also the Demarr-Kawhi trade, but there were a ton of other factors at play with their title win as well
