You should have stuck with us Doc, although I’m glad you didn’t. Still wish him the best

  2. AirJordan6124

Ngl but Doc can be the perfect assistant coach for Mazzulla lol

  3. fatnoah

Wow, imagine how lovable that team would be with Nick Nurse’s perpetual whining at officials added to the mix.

  4. Brad-Stevens

Funny how two games turn the tides

From “Oh we prepared for the Al-Rob lineup, we are ready for that” to fired 5 days later 😂

Jays should be crucified and banned from Philly.

They out here sending 2 Philly HC (Brett Brown and Doc) to the shadow realm 💀

Edit: About to be 3 if this next HC becomes a scapegoat once again should Embiid underperforms

  6. CertifiedLurker5

He gonna have to retire, right? Seriously, I don’t see anyone taking him as a head coach again after his debacle of a tenure with the Sixers.

  7. _Brodo_Baggins_

Wow, they fired the guy who was outcoaching Mazzulla?

  8. bourgewonsie

I am the biggest fan of clowning on Choke Rivers as much as the next guy but anyone with eyes can see that the series was not lost because of him or his coaching. If anything the only reason they even had a fighting chance was because of his coaching, which maybe says a lot more about how doomed Philly was from the start lol

Doc and Embiid/Harden deserve each other. Good at what they do but always choke and underperform in the big moments.

Coaches will always be the scapegoat when the season doesn’t go as expected. It’s sad to see.

  11. FloweredWallpaper

I figure ESPN will hire him for a studio gig. They are such a mess on that front compared to TNT, and Doc has a history of TV work.

  12. Gunnar2019

Now this is the Boston Celtics news I’ve been waiting for

  13. sodabubbles1281

Always liked him. Great coach for vets but not ideal for young players and rookies. He didn’t lose the series for them whatsoever.

He’d be a phenomenal assistant for Joe! 🤞

  14. ajh_iii

Over/under on how quickly Maxey regresses?

  15. Fuckblackhorses

So is the new trend that if you get eliminated from the playoffs you need to fire your coach?

  16. Shocked it took so long. Gave him a courtesy day. Scapegoating is real

  17. _canadianbacon

We have now killed the Nets and Sixers, who’s next?

  18. Distance_Motor

In reality 76ers fan should be thanking us. If we had lost this series than 76ers would have predictably lost in the ECF or the Finals and would’ve kept Rivers

  19. panzerfausted

Doc Rivers is a good coach from another era. His coaching style is not adapted for today’s basketball

  20. champagnesupernova10

It’s official: we broke the Sixers and whatever the fuck their “process” was.

  21. Madonkadonk2

So that is KD, Kyrie, and Doc all leaving their teams cause of the Celtics.

  22. 530josh

Every season that passes I become progressively more amazed that 2008 happened

  23. brickvanexel

Man crazy Doc has been there only 3 years it feels like 30

  24. 2kballislife

Feel kinda bad for Doc especially how hard he rode for Joe. He was whiny before Game 7 but hey he knew we were home and far better than his squad you’re gonna pull all the strings that you can for any advantage.

  25. CynicalMindTrip

We own them, regardless of the name of the coach.

  26. donorak7

Holy shit just dismissed him after the loss like that damn.

  27. AWalker17

What an absolute joke! I assume that Harden’s camp said it was either him or Doc. That’s the only valid reason. He wasn’t the reason they lost.

  28. The dominos are falling.

Next up, Harden leaves for Houston.

Then Embiid will ask to be traded.

  29. Georgia4life

The Atlanta Hawks series back in 2021 was on the team not on Doc rivers, especially Ben Simmons that man is garbage. The 2022 Heat series was on Doc rivers. This Boston series game 2,3,7 were on the team not Doc rivers but game 6 I think I would blame Doc for that. He just has a bad habit of not trusting young players, he is obsessed with veterans. Just like most of our good Boston teams were veterans when he was here.

  30. EmployeeNumberMate

I hope for their sake they’ve got an idea of whom they’d be able to hire, especially if they’re going to make a decision like that so soon after elimination. The amount of blame being laid at Doc’s feet is ridiculous, if you ask me. I don’t know which coach would have been able to take that team to a title this year.

  31. sherekahn5

That’s two coaches in a row the Celtics are responsible for the Sixers firing

  32. bgotseoul

At some point you have to just blame the players

  33. papabearsixtynine

I personally feel so conflicted about this.

Everybody from that 2008 team holds a very special place in my heart, and that includes Doc.

His money is no good at my place in Boston, as far as I’m concerned.

But, damn… I can’t ignore the stats, man.

Then again, I’ve always felt like Joel is a soft bitch, and Harden is, well, Harden.

How much of that loss was *LEGIT* Doc’s fault?

When Harden went off in Games 1 and 5, was that down to Doc’s masterful coaching, too?

I dunno. What do you all think?
