Antonio Daniels Grilled Me For Being a Delusional Spurs Fan

Antonio Daniels said that Victor is entering the league more like David Robinson, a bad team. I called in and disagreed but didn’t get to unpack my point. I got ripped apart by Antonio Daniels lol. I didn’t get to clarify my point. I was talking about 3-4 year timeline, and how the team is already being structured around Victor. Eventually they did that with Timmy when they realized David was fading… and they went young: Parker, Ginobili and other young role players. They got young and that’s now Timmy had the team developed around him. The same thing is happening with Victor. David played with a lot of older players, players they didn’t draft. Hell, they had the corpse of Dominique Wilkins at one point. The front office is largely the same front office that Timmy had.

I was at the park with my 3 year old, chasing her around by time they went to me. I had been on the line for an hour. Ultimately, I kind of bungled the call but I stand by what I said. They’ve already been building the team around him this last year. Devin Vassell (I kind of bungled his name on the air) hasn’t hit his prime yet. Hardly any of our key players have. In 3-4 years, I see someone on the team being part of a big three, a second option. I think Victor really helps the defense, as I see them funneling the opposing team into him like they did with Timmy. If someone got beat, Timmy was there by the rim. Victor will be 23-24. As long as he’s healthy, we are competing for championship in 3-4 years.

Am I delusional?

Lol well done taking their BS. That’s really funny actually, you wait for an hour and get grilled.

I don’t think you’re delusional if you mean 3-4 years from now we’re making the playoffs every year. Sometime around then we should be solidly in the playoffs and potentially headed to the finals a few years after. Now is that ambitious? For sure. A lot of bad stuff could happen between now and then but I can see what you were going for.

I think wemby, sochan, vassell are the future. Keldon is in there too. We have some good pieces but will need to fill it in like they did every year when we had the big 3. There was always a rotation of vets and unproven players so I imagine we will see that again while our core works things out.

Haha. I don’t think what you said was wrong. I think we could be competing in deep playoff runs in 3 years.

This squad is better than the team that drafted lebron. Playoffs next year, book it. Contenders in 2-3, if Wemby is the real deal.

I thought you said champ next year, had to go back and listen again.

I agree and disagree with you. I agree that it will take 4 yrs for this team to be a contender. I disagree that being 4 yrs away is something you would call being “close” to contention. Also, I disagree that when Wemby arrives he will be in the similar circumstance to when Timmy arrived. Just compare the roster of 1997 Spurs and current roster. Timmy arrived to the team full of veteran. The Admiral was already here. Who is the “Admiral” of the current Spurs? Gorgui Deing?

I think Wemby’s situation is more similar to when Nikola Jokic arrived in 2014. That Nuggets team had many good players; Gallanari, Kenneth Farried, Jameer Nelson etc but none of them was someone who you would call a star. That team grew organically, made some good trades and here they are now in the conference finals. The Spurs are following that path. The team doesn’t have a real star yet, but as we keep developing our guys along with our superstar Wemby, one or two of them will emerge either internally or through trade.

You’re not completely wrong, but I think your timeline is a little accelerated.

Playoffs next year for sure. Could win in 2.

  7. You’re delusional. Lmao.

I love my Spurs and been a fan since 89. I’m not that old, but not young. One of the reasons I moved to San Antonio was my fandom.

This team has a ways to go to be a perennial playoff team. It’s more like when David came in as opposed to Tim. We have some solid young guys, but not nearly enough

Unless we hit again in the next draft or get a big time free agent I think we will not have enough in 3 years to win a championship

  8. Why is no one questioning this Spurs Fan for pronouncing it “Devin VAAsell”?

I’m with Antonio. Spurs will probably be in the lottery next year, not a 50+ win team. I’m totally good with that.

I think we will likely be closer to the 35-win mark and Sochan and Wemby will get plenty of rest.

While I’m perfectly fine with the Spurs not winning a championship within the next 3 seasons, so long as they improve every season, it really ticks me off how disrespected Vassell and Keldon are!

They started to laugh when he brought them up. Vassell shot 39% from 3 on 7 attempts a game! Keldon averaged 26 ppg after December! Now will those guys still be around if the Spurs become strong contenders? I don’t know, who knows how much they’ll improve and if the Spurs want to go after a perennial all star talent in the future to pair with Wemby. However, I think real soon people are definitely going to start taking notice on these younger guys and not just Victor
