If the Celtics lose, could we get both Brown and Capella?

I think our best bet to replace Nurkic this off-season would be trading for Capella, there are only about a dozen centers in the NBA that are better than Nurkic and Capella will likely be the most available (other than Ayton, but he isn’t worth the contract).

Capella is great, but he is no all-star, so we would need to get back an all-star caliber player to play the starting SF/PF spot as well. The only players that fit that description are: Siakam, Brown, and Bridges, however we would also want that player to be a capable POA defender, which crosses Siakam off the list since he is better suited as a paint presence and off ball disrupter. Bridges would be the ideal fit, but at the moment it seems like the Nets are unlikely to move him, and if they do it will be at a steep price.

This leaves us with Jaylen Brown, who at the moment is putting himself in a situation to be prime to be traded. The Celtics are down 0-2 to the Heat, but more importantly Brown is not playing well, which is making many question giving him a super-max extension this off-season. If they do not come to an agreement, he will demand a trade, and I think we will have one of the best offers for him.

One other important element of this trade is us dumping Nurkic’s contract to the Spurs using Keon and the 23rd pick. Wemby has openly stated that he does not want to be pigeonholed into playing the C position in the NBA, and Nurkic is one of the only players in the NBA that you could put next to a 7’4″ player and still justify that he is the C. Keon and pick #23 will help add to their young core, and aside from Devin Vassell, they will not have any significant contract extensions to consider during the duration of Nurkic’s contract. Doug McDermott would be the contract coming back in this trade, as a veteran on an expiring contract who had a great shooting season and could have some value for a playoff team.

This trade has us trading pick #3 with Orlando for pick #6 and pick #11, a trade heavily rumored that could make sense in a context like this.

We trade McDermott and pick #11 for Capella, as McDermott can help give them much needed shooting and pick #11 can help add to their young core. This free’s up Okongwu to take over the starting C role, as many in Atlanta have been anticipating for a couple seasons now.

Finally we trade Simons, Little, and pick #6 for Jaylen Brown. This is a pretty solid return for Brown, especially if he is demanding a trade, as this gives them a player in Simons that immediately can fill in the scoring role that Brown is leaving behind. The Celtics can draft a player like Ausar Thompson who can potentially fill the wing spot Brown left behind within the next 2-3 seasons, or they can trade the pick for more assets to win now.

I like it except the Celtics would probably want multiple firsts for Brown and we still have to deal with the Chicago hold up

Brown will do everything possible to get the supermax signed before he would put in the trade demand.
