I want to get a guard in this draft to pair with Wemby.

As a fan, I’m ok with the actual organization saying they’re gonna take it easy and all that jazz, but when I read fans saying we need to temper our expectations and chill it bugs the hell outta me.
As fans, we’re not in a position to do anything so let us enjoy ourselves… as Popovich would say: It’s just basketball.

It makes sense considering you don’t want to make the same mistake Minnesota just made and go all in for a player who you think will accelerate your timeline when you are still trying to figure out if you have something worth building around. Sure it may sound enticing to swing a deal for Lillard or Jaylen but at this point we have no idea what Wemby will become. That’s not to say the Spurs shouldn’t make moves because they should but the moves they make should be ones that help make Wembys transition to the NBA easier or ones that help you get pieces to develop alongside him.

for his rookie year I totally get it, he’s 19, you want victor to get adjusted to the nba and give him time, and you wanna see how the rest of the core guys complement him

If Wemby is as advertised and leads to 30+ wins, especially if we make play in then yes, trade picks for a star PG or a draft pick PG like Scoot that looks to be good in 2024 (as in if we improve but do 11-14 lottery next year, trade THAT pick and the asset chest we have for a top 5 pick for a PG)

I’m fine with realistically not contending for these next 2 yrs or so. People’s expectations are sky high but Wemby is coming into a team that is just getting started.
What I’m really hyped for, now that we got the 1st pick, is what happens starting in 2025. That’s the year those Hawks’ picks appear and we get an unprotected 1st rd pick, then in 2026 a pick swap, then another unprotected 1st rd pick in 2027!
Who knows what the landscape of the NBA will be like in just 2 yrs but in a perfect situation, Wemby would be our for sure franchise player, our other young guys are either in their prime or starting to get there, and the Spurs still have great cap flexibility. If that’s how it is like then it opens up so much more avenues to bring in top tier talent via trades and free agency.

This article title has a whole different meaning without the number 1 pick lmao

I would gladly devote 2 yrs to develop the team that could conceivably be a dynasty lasting many trophies/ years to come!
