Do The Celtics Have To Trade Jaylen Brown? | The Bill Simmons Podcast

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons talks with Ryen Russillo about Jaylen Brown’s situation with the Celtics and whether it makes sense to break up him and Jayson Tatum at this point in both of their careers or if Jaylen is a long-term piece for the Celtics to build around.

  1. I predicted that even homers like Simmons would call for breaking up the 2 Js, particularly saying that Brown (not Tatum) has to go, and here it is. You can't hypocritically say that "I kinda don't want to see this, BUT here are the trades for Brown…", talking out of both sides of his mouth like Simmons. Tatum by comparison is never mentioned or offered as trade bait–he's basically untouchable. No wonder Brown feels slighted, unappreciated, and pissed off. Given that he's qualified for a supermax by making one of the all-NBA teams, Boston might cheap out and decide to ship him out to avoid having to pay him (this would screw him because other teams can't pay him as much). Brown has always played harder (harder than Tatum) and has more dog in him, but he seems always destined to be 2nd banana in Boston.

  2. # 3 pick and Simons doesnt make you better. Just own the fact that yall fired a coach that overacheived and replaced him with one that wasnt ready….this sounds like karma for screwing over IT…..

  3. You don't want Simons. You ABSOLUTELY want Lillard. You don't need Lillard to be the best player if you've got Tatum. Simons would be a lateral if not downward move

  4. Trade Tatum, let’s see if another team will fall for it and let’s see what we get back, jayson tradum

  5. Hardly see Jaylen use his size anyway.. he's best when he's attacking w/ a full head of steam

  6. Crazy How People Will talk about trading Jaylen Brown but REFUSE to trade Marcus Smart! In what world is A 2 way scorer not better than a sometimes all defense and sometimes just trash in smart

  7. Do not trade them but deff need to find a big man who can score and play defense love Al but his time is over

  8. The best thing that happened to Miami was losing both Oladipo and Herro. The guys on the bench are proving that they're better than those two and there's no way either of these two could do what the four undrafted free agents are doing in these playoffs.

Plain and simple Butler, Adebayo, Martin, Vincent, Robinson and Strus is better than Butler, Adebayo, Lowry, Love, Oladipo and Herro – incredibly enough

  9. There's a lot of redundancy in Brown / Tatum. You could use a much better point guard and a much better stretch five. Addition by subtraction with Brown – it frees Tatum.

  10. Jaylen is tripping talks like he's the best on the team when his ego shows all the low iq plays never making big plays on defense

  11. This is absolute insanity. No. You do not break up Jaylen and Jayson. You get a real coach. You tweak the roster, add some respected vets and then take a run at the title for the next 7-8 years. LA Bill sucks.

  12. An adjustment to the trade idea:
    Portland gets: Jaylen Brown
    Boston gets: Mikal Bridges
Brooklyn gets: #3 pick + Simons
Boston gets a replacement combo guard, Portland gives Dame a real star, Brooklyn can start the rebuild with a star rookie guard which they don’t have
    Who says no??

  13. If I am Portland I get rid of pillars at all costs. It would be a steal to get JB

  14. Yep. Trade 1 of them Jays. There can only be 1 ballhog in a team. While were at it kindly include Malcom and Marcus. All of them guys have the tendency to bringdown the ball be be trigger happy shoot it without anyone else touching the basketball. Its having 4 guys like that put them in this position

  15. No, it's stupid to keep saying this. We need a solid coach. Mazzulla was just not ready.

  16. Why is it, that People from Boston, who look like Bill Simmons, are always Talking about Trading Jaylen Brown? I know🤔: THEY DON’T LIKE BLACK SOCIAL ACTIVISTS!

  17. I disagree Lillard for brown, lillard is getting older and most definitely wont have a similar next year to this year. Brown can still get better

  18. how are they going to clown him for his ball handling and turnovers when Tatum was even WORSE. set the all-time playoff record for turnovers last year

  19. Jaylen Brown and Smart for Dame Lillard, or some iteration of that. Doesn't that make some sense for both? Boston gets a closer, leader and elite player with a two or three year window because of his age. Portland gets a young near superstar with Brown and a nice veteran leader in Smart to go with Sharp, who looks like he has potential, and whoever they end with in this draft. Brown fits Portland's timeline much better than Dame. If you can't do something like that, then you run it back and tweak on the edges. They could use a knockdown shooter IMO.

  20. I don't think Jaylen Brown is particularly keen to stay in Boston and would be open to a mutual parting of ways. He understandably is probably bitter about being in Durant trade rumors all season. He probably also feels he will always be considered second fiddle to Tatum while he could the main guy on his own team. He also wants to be active in social causes and Boston fans are less than sympathetic about that. Now that he's due for a big payday having hit second team all-NBA, I wouldn't be surprised to see him involved in a sign-and-trade as his value will never be higher.

  21. You SuperMax the Jays and build around them. Smart can't be the 3rd highest paid guy on a contender and needs to go. Dwhite can play the Smart minutes and know his role. Horford isn't a 35 minutes a night guy anymore they need to bring him off the bench and find the next Horford replacement. I"d try to trade Smart, Pritchard, and Grant for Ayton. Suns could use Smart and Grant and Pritchard would fill out some depth which they need.

  22. Jaylen brown is better than tatum or atleast equal but i get a laugh at all you tatum fanboys delsion about tatum in the comments and these guy know nothing about basketball who made the video tatum currently has the most missed shots this playoffs and leads all players in turnovers
