Cason Wallace Draft Profile: Is he the best defender in the class as a guard?

The Oklahoma City Thunder are picking 12th in the 2023 NBA Draft. Could Cason Wallace be fit for the OKC Thunder in this Draft? Would the Thunder need to trade up to grab Wallace? Is The Kentucky Product the best point-of-attack defender in the draft for the guard position? Can the Bricktown boys find a role for him this season in Oklahoma City?

  1. My thought is to envision who, in two years, will be our primary threat to a championship. Right now it’s strongly clear it will be Denver who is extremely talented, voung and strong at every position particularly at center and guard. Jokic is fantastic but Jamal Murray, now that he is whole, has been the difference. We have Lu but to have two elite defensive guards would be unique. Great analysis of him. And watching him play and talk you can tell he is incredibly serious and quietly intense. You win with kids like him. Trade up, if necessary.

  2. Also, I’m hypothecating that the Thunder might trade up to Houston by offering their 12th pick and next year’s Houston’s and perhaps even the one in 2026 as I can’t imagine him, or Dick, will be around at 12. Trust Sam!

  3. My comps are a smaller Marcus Smart and in a way, Lu. If you watched him last game, a loss to Kansas State, what really struck me was something extremely unusual as he is a freshman. His teammates, especially as the game progressed, immediately gave him the ball. Most college teams especially at the guard tend to bring the ball up and shoot.

  4. How do you feel about bobi klintman if we were to trade up from the second round into a late first?

  5. If we get Wallace and NOT THEISBWE I'll be Maddd. WE NEED OSCAR MORE THAN WALLACE. Not to take away from what Wallace brings to the table but I don't understand how Wallace is 15 projected spots hight than THEISBWE WHO LED THE NCAA IN REBOUNDS 2 YEARS IN A ROW AND CAN PLAY FAST PACED. It's not even a question.

  6. My dream for this draft is that we Get Wallace and then trade next years clippers with both the 35th and 37th 2nd round picks of this year for the 13th and snatch Theisbwe.
