The 2024 off-season will have much more valued players that the Rockets can sign rather than exhausting all of their assets by trading young promising players and picks this year. I say add veteran players that will drastically contribute to this team without breaking the bank. If the Rockets can keep their young core and not trade them as well as keep the Nets picks and still have a lot of caps space to sign 1 or 2 pending FA’s I think they should instead of worrying about the Thunder getting our pick.

Why not Tre Jones? Or see what the Magic want for Fultz.
What I’m afraid is Tillman will sign Harden and trade our assets for two stars and compete. Like Lillard and maybe Siakam or KAT.

The only big name free agent this year or next year who would even consider the Rockets is James Harden. This whole “wait to spend” is dumb. Harden is also the best free agent available this year or next.
Even Jaylen Brown is going to sign that supermax the Celtics have no choice but to offer, and if they don’t offer it we’ll have to trade for him anyway.
Most teams that hold cap space hoping for some future free agent to materialize just end up wasting that cap space
Frankly, the FA market isn’t great this year. With Harden being a stand out but also a big gamble if you pay him the max he likely will request to come back to where his contender status would be minimized.
And current Harden isn’t exactly max level talent you can build around.
I second your ‘unpopular’ opinion – i thought that the particular year in the post was the plan all along
Klay Thompson is a constipated pimp rooster who would only drag the team down. Kris Middleton is the best bet for this team.
The salary floor is still a thing. If you’re confident that we can attract big names next summer, then sign guys like Conley to 1+1 deals. However if you can get players like Cam Johnson or Grant Williams out of RFA, then do it now. And also we still need to get a vet backup center this offseason along with a rotational point guard (like Conley)
You’re omitting all the RFA this year that we can still make offers to, like Cam Jonhson. Also, you’re forgetting the fact that we are living in the extension era. Everyone and their mothers got huge extensions in the past 2 years, so the next FA classes will inevitably be underwhelming
How many of those players do you actually want to sign?
Of those players, how many do you think will actually get to free agency?
Of those players, how many do you think will consider signing with a rebuilding team?
The answer is zero.
The real unpopular opinion is that we shouldn’t be looking at big signings at all. We should add decent role players for an acceptable price. I don’t understand why we should trap ourselves in a long term and untradable contracts just cause we have cap space now.
Sometimes less is more.
Sure but you only have these young guys on the cheap for so long. Gotta make a move eventually
so that OKC will enjoy a 6th pick from us next year? is that really a good strategy, i doubt it.
Or get a player that is also tradable.
