”When the stress of being down 3-1 starts to become overwhelming, I just think about those girls dying and I’m glad I’m not them and I feel better.”

Is this better or worse than Theo Epstein listening to black box recordings of plane crashes to meditate?

Nothing better to widen your perspective than to see a dying child smile.

We all need a reminder that theres much more serious things in life than a game sometimes

I think I understand his sentiment. He’s not the best with words.

Watch in real time as Redditors gotta make this comment something it’s not

Joe worded it weirdly, and some of you are gonna twist the words, but clearly the sentiment here was about having perspective & faith in both the team & god (controversial I know) over the last 48 hours. I can get upset with Joe (quite a bit) and the dude can be cheesy/corny/weird as hell on any given day. Each round of the playoff has humbled Joe a little more and I honestly think he will leave this playoffs a better coach regardless of the outcome.

Probably sounded better when he said it than seeing it written out. But I get what he’s going for.

People worried about that last part but I thought coach was about to admit a case at first

Holy fuck, is it bad I can’t stop laughing?

    >Watching a girl that’s dying, smiling, that’s what it’s really all about.

    Oh dear.

The first half of this story is wild

The experience he just described needed an entire chapter of a book. If you’re interested, How Can I Help by Ram Dass and Paul Gorman gets into caring for dying people and being around kids with cancer. It’s a deep expanding of consciousness and awareness to be with any dying people.

In my opinion, this isn’t the platform nor the time to connect that experience to this basketball series.

Lol, but yes Joe. I agree. The way time stands still in moments that are complete awareness (which is what dying people can tune into very easily) is what it’s all about…..

  15. He A Little Confused, But He Got The Spirit…i guess? some weird shit Matthew McConaughey might say

As a cancer survivor myself, I get what he’s saying, even if it wasn’t worded the best. I just lost a coworker, mentor, and friend to cancer literally yesterday, too. I’d talked to him about a week before they decided to stop treatments, and he was still the same guy he’s always been, laughing at everything.

It can’t be understated how much being faced with cancer, or witnessing the perseverance of those facing it, can change your perspective.
