He is getting a lot of buzz in a draft class short on bigs!

Defensive instincts/hustle is a bit concern, which is hard to coach with a short turnaround.

The man’s a project from what I understand. Anyone know how his bbIQ/ intuition is?

Welp, at least he knows how to play defense.
I’d be surprised if he fell to 19.

One of the only 19 year olds I would draft. Highly skeptical he lasts to where the Warriors pick though given how terrible the big man depth is in this class, so I’m not getting my hopes up too much. But good to see the Warriors recognize how well his skillset would match what they want to do because so far he’s basically the only 19 year old they’ve worked out from what I can tell.

Hell nah. We just traded Dereck Lively Senior.

I’m surprised to see people so low on him and consistently labeling him as a project. My understanding is that at Duke he played a more complementary role and excelled at the exact skills we always wanted to see from wiseman that he never gave us.

Great lob threat and rim runner without the tendency to try to score on his own in the post, great instincts as a rim protector with a special ability to switch onto the perimeter, really good rebounder, and possibly most importantly he sets great screens.

I understand if the wiseman experience has scared everyone off from young and athletic centers, but lively seems like he literally excels everywhere wiseman needed to be good at, and isn’t as focused on the one thing wiseman tried too hard at. I think he’d be a great pick if he fell to us, but that seems increasingly unlikely given the rumors these days.

He fits the FO’s mold of big time HS recruits who underachieved prior to entering the league. Lively was the number 1 player in his HS class
