The pursuit of Austin Reaves that will likely never happen

Yeah no way we’re signing him. Knew there were some complications but all the early Bird stuff with Reaves makes it a non-starter I’d guess.

I just wouldn’t feel comfortable giving him the $100M it seemingly would take. Pass

Until I see a second season of this guy performing at a high level I have to assume he’s going to do Jordan Poole things after his payday.

I’m not sold on him tbh. he got a better whistle than some superstars in the league, I dont see that happening if he plays for a non-Lakers team

The notion of signing Reaves does not comport with methodically building around Victor and emerging as a playoff team around 2024-2025.

That said, I hope the Spurs pick up the phone, chat up his agent, and make the Lakers sweat. I suspect some other teams in more desperate to win now situations will make a hard run at him this off season. Can the Lakers not match? I know they cannot extend him higher than the quoted number, but if someone backs up the truck, I think the Lakers are able to match?

Anyway, it could create an opportunity for us to make some hay if a team wants Reaves and needs to unload salary, and is willing to attach draft capital or a good, young player to it.

Meh, all this did was help me understand Tre Jones value. Guess we have to re-sign him because he won’t get this type of coverage or attention but he’s more like what we need than Reeves. Tre is more important and will cost less..

This is one of my favorite substacks. I find it a delight to read it. He puts out plenty of free content unlike some others.

Wtf is that an AI Austin Reaves for the thumbnail? Reaves would be a valuable player but I think we need to be further along our rebuild to make more sense of signing him.

We could however drive up his price for LA
