The issue isn’t the repeat offense. It’s that he made the NBA look bad and essentially lied to them.
It will be a harsh punishment because no one makes the commissioner look bad. The NBA has had someone following him probably for awhile now, and they know everything.

Ron Artest/Marta’s suspension was for the entire season (86 games, 73 regular season and 13 playoff games) because of the Malice at the Palace. That’s the one thing that popped my mind about punishing an athlete cuz of a stupid sh#t (if there any any others let me know)
Looking at Ja’s stupidity and a half, this might be a death penalty-esque type of thing (without the death). If the punishment is lenient I wouldn’t be surprised. The NBA is gonna lose a lot of cheddah IF they cut ties with Ja but it’s for the best
