Which hall of fame coach did not have hall of fame players? What did Phil do without Jordan, Pippen, Kobe, and Shaq? And, to my knowledge, these hall of fame coaches acknowledge they owe a so much of their success to their hall of fame players. But not every coach who has hall of fame players succeeds. Pop created a culture, a system, and a standard and got hall of fame egos to buy in to it. Oh and he helped develop Kawhi Leonard reach his potential and probably had a better sense of what his body was capable of and how to manage that than his uncle did. Not to mention turning Manu and Tony into hall of famers and get various glue guys to come in and meld and contribute. Bubba's take is a lazy one bourne out of jealousy. I had the same take when I was younger on Phil. And it was incorrect. Just like Bubba is here.
What about all these teams that allowed players to pick the team and then get bounced out. No super teams in the finals right now… also remember the last like 8 years of the big 3 where the narrative was we couldnt win bc they were too old??? Selective memory.

The problem with such a stupid take is that they're looking at the result, not the process. Of course in the end they become Hall of Famers. But what the Spurs did with a 15th pick, a 28th pick and a 56th pick? Simply unprecedented. That's the value of Pop.
Pop is the best coach in the history of the NBA. Forget the fact he is first in win percentage, regular season wins, playoff wins, that Manu/Tim are number 1/2 in win percentage in the playoff and only played for him. Pop's greatness can be seen by all of his coaching tree that spans a third of the NBA by now, and how he got so many subpar players paid (often after they left San Antonio). They guys gonna hate when Pop get's his sixth title
From all of the teams in the league. The only one that has been arguably as successful as the Spurs in the past 3 decades is the Lakers. We have a title in each decade since the 90s and likely have one this decade too. Only the Lakers have that, the rest of the teams aren't even close

This is a ridiculous take by a ridiculous person. Who has won mulltiple championships without having Hall of Famers?Red Auerbach, Pat Riley, and Phil Jackson all had multiple HOF players. Why do we not hear this about Phil Jackson? There is just a lot of Spurs and Pop hate out there. That is OK, because we are going to have another 20 yrs of dominance and multiple championships on the way.

Would the same guy argue that Phil Jackson didn’t win without HOF-ers? In fact, I’d like to point out that Phil Jackson never even coached a single season without first ballot HOF-ers, immediately in their prime. But he doesn’t get this kind of scrutiny.
I’d argue that what makes Pop the best is he embraced this challenge of coaching with no stars. Of building. Respectfully, Jackson would never have attempted that.
