In this mock draft, Kelcey Wright Johnson and Kelly Iko select Amen Thompson out of the Overtime Elite League for the Houston Rockets’ fourth overall pick. The Rockets need a bit of everything, including shooting and playmaking, but they should focus on taking the best player available. Wright and Iko sees Thompson’s upside, explosive athleticism, and defensive ability as reasons why the Rockets would be sold on him despite his need to work on his jump shot. Pairing him with Jalen Green could be electric, and also believe that Thompson’s passing ability would mesh well with Green’s scoring ability. Iko acknowledges that the Rockets also need win-now veterans, but the draft is a starting point for their rebuilding process.
