Damian Lillard came out on Wednesday and said that there were a couple of teams he could see himself playing with if not in Portland. One was the Miami Heat and the other was the Brooklyn Nets. It was an interesting admission from the Blazers’ guard who could be headed towards a new destination this off-season. The Locked on Nets guys take a look at what this means for the Lillard market and whether the Nets are now in firmly in the mix for his services.
It’s an interesting discussion surrounding future team-building and whether Lillard is the kind of player to ship out multiple draft picks and potentially other assets to acquire.

Hello everyone we have a lot to talk about….
First its been confirmed this week that Mikal Bridges is staying in Brooklyn and he's not getting traded. He's a cornerstone of Brooklyn future and he has stepped up as a leader. In the same vein Brooklyn says it will match any offer sheet to retain Cam Johnson and keep the Twins together 🔥…
And now the Damian Lillard Brooklyn connection just got a lot of steam today… 😨
On a podcast today Damian Lillard was asked to name some teams he would want to play for and the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets were his choices. He would want to play with Bam adabayo or his "dawg" and friend Mikal Bridges….
Looking at the two teams Miami has almost no draft picks, heavy contract's in Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson. And Tyler Herro Nikola Jovic and a draft pick is not going to pry Damian Lillard from Portland.
Looking at Brooklyn we have the draft compensation, movable veteran contracts and prospect players in Cam Thomas and Dayron sharpe.
If Damian Lillard is serious about wanting to be on a contending team Brooklyn could make this happen….
Let's look at some possible trade scenarios:
One obvious one is Ben Simmons Cam Thomas and three first round draft picks for Damian Lillard. Brooklyn gets off Ben Simmons contract and acquires a scoring machine in Lillard whose surrounded by some great defensive pieces.
Another possible scenario is Spencer dinwiddie Royce o Neale Joe Harris and Cam Thomas for Damian Lillard. Trading role players for Lillard without having to give up too many draft assets is another route.
Now one route a lot of people will disagree with is trading Nic Claxton as a center piece with Joe Harris Spencer dinwiddie and Patty Mills for Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic. Claxton will be a free agent in a year and if Brooklyn signs Cam Johnson to a big contract and trades for Lillard signing Claxton would severely put them in the luxury tax penalties. Getting Nurkic gives Brooklyn a more offensive focused center and Dayron sharpe could be the center of Brooklyn future with more development…
Ultimately one likely scenario to acquiring Lillard is through a multi team deal….
What does everyone else think??
Ultimately the Trailblazers look like a team ready to enter a rebuild. They have a young core of Anfernee Simons Shaedon Sharpe Nasir little and are getting either scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller in the draft.
Damian Lillard doesn't fit in that rebuild and they are not a team ready to contend. Ultimately if Miami and Brooklyn are Dames top choices the ball 🏀 is ultimately in Brooklyn court if they want to make a all in move to acquire Damian Lillard and establish a new core of Damian Lillard Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton 🔥🔥🔥🔥…
That's a possible core that can compete and make a lot of noise….
However Brooklyn can just ride out the season with the new core they have and just build from here. Regardless things are getting very interesting…
After what the Suns got all the assets for KD. Dream on of Brooklyn think they can get Dame for crumbs 🤦🏾♂️😂
On a side note former NBA defensive player and four time NBA champion Andre Igudola is in NY and could be joining Brooklyn coaching staff 🔥. This would be a great hire by Brooklyn. Andre knows how to connect with the younger talent and help push their games to the next level. Hes a good vocal leader and can help with player development as well…
I'd like someone to make the other argument, Mikhael is gonna hit his Prime Next season so if we're not gonna compete we should move him and Portland's No. 3 pick would be a good start. But the worst thing to do is stand Pat and get another first round sweep IMO
Fun fact dame has played 15 less games in the last two yrs than KD. Look I like dame but he's about to be 33 and in his career he's never been that top 5 elite superstar. He's always been in the tier right below it. I think this would bring excitement but the ceiling would be pretty apparent early on. I dont see them being better than boston, milwaukee, maybe even the sixers, cavs and knicks. And out west there's a handful of teams I'd take over them as well. I think the risk just isnt worth it. I'd rather stand pat or see how desperate portland becomes at the draft for mikal
I hope they do that trade I’ll jump right on that Portland bandwagon
